MXT Sweep Speed

New member
I have read where alot of people use a slow sweep speed with the MXT. Are we talking slow like using an explorer? Will the slow sweep speed have an effect on the depth vs a faster speed? I mostly use the Fisher F70 and you need to have a good sweep speed or you will lose depth. I would like to work some areas using a very slow speed because of the trash contents, would the MXT help me there as far as picking up targets are reasonable depths? Thanks for any info. HH John

Are we talking slow like using an explorer?

I never used an Explorer but the MXT is not affected my different sweep speeds like other detectors. I had an DFX user tell me I was swinging too slow, I don't think so. Rob

You should have told Mr.DFX that your were old and are doing the best that you can............

I've gone slow in spots and faster in others. It doesn't matter in the sweep speed. Depth will still be the same. You've got to listen for those deep signals. It's one nice machine for ANY type of hunting. HH to all, Nancy

I don't know for sure but I would think that the sweep speed would only be critical in Prospecting mode when you are playing with the VSAT settings.

The INTRO video I got with my mxt shows a bloke on the beach who was going so fast it looked ridiculous. I don't think it would be possible to go much faster than that. Being on the video I assume that would be fine.

You don't want to be going too slow with auto tracking as you might be picking up a signal and ground balancing in on it if it's there too long. If you're worried about being too slow. Do a ground balance and lock it in. then you can go as slow as you like. Or pull the trigger and you don't need to move at all.

That's my 2 cents worth.

I've found my MXT to be very forgiving in relation to sweep speed except when in trashy areas which require a slow sweep and preferably a small coil.

Sweep speed can be very slow for all modes and you will not lose depth or miss a signal. Sometimes, that is the only way to find very tiny pieces of gold or old deep coins. The SAT is a variable SAT with a super SAT function in prospecting mode. While hunting for gold in mineralized soil, you turn it all the way up and go. You will just hear a bee buzz. The aprox 14khz makes it so it will not find as small a piece of gold as a GMT or a GB2. But, because of the lower freq, it will find gold deeper and I can attest that I found a gold picker so tiny that I almost lost it in my shirt pocket. I have also found a 3/4 oz nugget and a solitaire diamond ring. Remember that the pinpointing fuction does not work in GP mode. I am no expert. I have only had my MXT for about 8 months and the weather has only allowed me to use it for the last 5 months. I am still learning....jim
