MXT & Silver Coins

I have been using my MXT for over two years and have mainly hunted for relics and gold. I have recently become interested in finding old silver coins and wanted some input about how well the MXT does on coins as far as depth and sensitivity to silver. Is there a need for another detector for coins or will the MXT compete with detectors like the Explorer or CZ3D for old silver coins. Any help or input would be greatly appreciated.

The MXT will work excellent for coins too, I have the Minelab Sovereign and Explorer too which will do a bit better then the MXT for coins, but the MXT will be close. The Minelab seem to go deeper and will get get some the MXT cant see too, but when we have done a side by side comparison on accual target it is close as the MXT can see most of them. The big thing with the MXT is the learning curve is not bad and so much easier to use and understand than the Explorer, but once you know the Explorer it can do great things as we see looking at the fourms by those that know it well.
Being you have the MXT I would use it for coin hunting and see what you can do. I run mine in the relic mode as i like the 2 tones and run my disc to the first mark and sensitivity without going into the + and when in a cleaner area I will run my sensitivity in the + area.
Up here in ND I have dug quaters at 9 inches with no problem, a brass key at 12 with the 6X10 coil and in heavy trash the little mini shooter 4X6 coil has got me many of coins at 6-7 inches.

What coil were you using when you did the side by side comparison?

and the stock coil that day. My hunting partner had the stock coil on the Explorer. I remember a IH he got, but I got no signal on it,but then I got a signal with the 6X10 that was a high tone most of the time, but low too at times. He told me the Explorer showed trash, but i dug a old brass key at around 11-12 inches.
My wife uses the MXT most of the time and I remember a 1841 seated dime she got a 9 inches too with the 6X10 coil that gave a decent signal too. I also remember a week later she getting a 1848 large cent too with the same coil that was only around 6 inches deep in a well worked ballfeild we had missed before. This coil and the MXT works great for us up here in ND,but the Explorer will find more older and deeper coins by the end of the day.

Try the 14x8 coil, I havn't compared it to anything but I have got some really really deep zincs in 87gnd
sand. Thought they were crushed cans till I got to them. They must leave a big halo really fast.

I dont have one yet, but looking for the right deal and I amy try one as I feelit would be a great coil in the right area.
