MXT Setup

I'm sold on the MXT, have been ever since it came out. I'm a relic hunter and the only thing I wish I could change would be to relocate control box either around neck or side mounted opposite the arm I swing. This would be the "Ultimate" relic machine if I could change that. Has anyone ever attempted to reposition control box? Or is it even possible?

A guy on another forum posted how he belt mounted his, but it was a complicated conversion (I thought so). Do you swing right handed and are you right handed? I started out that way and then realized that it was just as easy to swing left handed. I shortened the shaft as far as it would go to get a better center of gravity and started swinging left and using my relic shovel in my right. For me its made it easier to lay down the unit on the left and then start digging.

I have a "factory" built hip/chest mount MXT purchased last year in AZ. Bought it for the little woman...her neck/back is getting arthritic...Might have something to do with spending the last 50 years trying to keep me in line! It sure is lighter & when properly worn, stays pretty much out of the way.

There's a coupla major differences tho...1) The cable from the coil may need to be longer & 2) You'll need to either get the "factory" mounting pad from White's that secures the 'tector to your belt, or fabricate one. IMHO, one could be fabricated quite easily from saddle leather or heavy nylon seat-belt type material.

If you have interest in converting yours, I'll see about getting some pics/specs. If you want a new, factory one, (I think he still has 1 or 2) I can put you in touch...I think they were a few extra $$$, but maybe you can make a deal!?

Enjoy!

Thanks Canewrap and BARGuy for the response. I'm pretty handy at fabricating a useful setup for either hipmount or I would prefer a chest mount configuration. There is only one problem and BARGuy you mentioned it...the cable might have to be a little longer for this to work. I may be able to fix that...thanks guys for the help!

There is a special edition MXT Chest Mount Model. Call Transbay Metal Detectors (650-574-2012) and Ask Greg if he still has any in stock. I purchased one about two weeks ago and love it. Went to the beach for the first time last Friday and found a gold ring!

I sure would like to see a photo of this mod. Who ever has one I would appreciate a look at it and I am sure their others would like to see it to. My wife has developed a disability recently and this might be something to help her continue with our hobby. HH Dennis in Idaho

Here are pictures of my set up, sorry they are not that clear, had to leave most of rain/dust cover on as it is a pain to take on and off.

That is exactly what I need...thanks for the information fllawboy. I'll give him a call.

Thanks for the photos. Would it be possible for you to take one of it on you? HH Dennis in Idaho
