MXT SAT speed

On the SAT knob the speed is 0 to 7 then hypersat. Does anyone know what number would C/J mode (Fast SAT) be and normal Relic mode (Slower SAT) be on the SAT scale? Using the normal Relic mode (Slower SAT) I have found more deep targets by listening for the slight threshold signals.

Hi dan, the dual control knob will adjust the discrimination level only in the coin&jewelry / relic modes. If changing to the prospecting mode it has the function of SAT.

He seems to know that already. C/J mode has a preset SAT speed, Relic has two preset SAT speeds depending on the tones you chose(pro) or the trigger position(mxt). He is asking what those presets would be if you were to manually adjust the SAT speed in prospecting mode. For example, is SAT knob at 3 the same as C/J mode? Would SAT knob at 7 be the same as Relic in Alt mode(2-tone)? Its a good question and perhaps not possible to answer accurately since it would take some very precise tests to determine. The engineers at Whites have the answer but finding the right person to ask and getting enough of their time to get an answer would be as hard as doing the tests yourself. :)

How to test this out if you cann't alter the value in C&J / relic modes because it is fixed in the software? Think best way to get infos about this (and fast) will be to post/ask this on the whites forum.

Thanks for replies, Aarong seems to know what I mean, I would sure like to get one of the MXT M9 with the separate SAT knobs, I like the mixed mode in Relic but sometimes the SAT is just a little to slow sometimes. Maybe Whites will come out with a new MXT Pro that is a little bit more programmable.
I ordered a new MXT Pro I am going to try hunting in Prospecting with tones and then be able to adjust the SAT this way.

Ive been reading about the pro bug mode lately and from what I understand if you hunt in prospecting mode and use the bug feature to get the tones if you touch any adjustments you loose the tones.

However I guess if you made the adjustment to the sat then turned off and back on in bug mode you could change your sat but would have to turn off and on each time you reset.

Please correct me if I'm wrong I'm just going by what Ive read and think I remember. LOL

You only lose the tones if you touch any of the buttons below the LCD screen or flip a toggle switch on the box(not counting trigger). You can turn the knobs without losing the tones but cannot flip any switches. So the only issue is setting the ground balance. You cannot touch 'grab ground' nor can you flip the trac switch to ground and back to lock again. You could however leave the TRAC switch set to ground but I always hunt with it locked.

This is a mode I only read about and played with briefly. I could be wrong about the TRAC switch affecting the prosp-tone mode. It could be the only thing that kicks you out of the secret mode is the 3 buttons below the LCD screen, so you may be able to toggle the TRAC switch as you need to. Either way, once you get used to the different sounds(doesn't sound anything like the other modes) it would be a very useful mode. I got used to C/J tone ID on and now its hard to pull myself away from that mode.

Thanks for the info Aarong81,

That clears it up for me, It seems the MXT will hunt in 7 tone all metal and still have threshold control. That makes it hunt like the SST so now I have to get a pro and check it out. If it hunts like the SST and is much more adjustable I just might have to have one.

I tried the prospecting mode today with the tones, I was able to update the ground with the toggle switch and the tones stayed also was able to change the SAT speed but didn't notice any real change in the threshold. The pinpoint seemed to work as well. I didn't find any real deep targets but hunting in all metal with the tones might be deeper for relic hunting. The tones sound like a combination of the zip zip and tones together.
