MXT questions

I have some questions about the MXT's prospecting mode:

1. is this a threshhold based, all-metal mode or a disc mode?
2. does the prospecting mode use any different signal processing circuitry from the other modes or is it only a preset arrangment of normal detector settings?
3. is the prospecting mode the best choice for hunting small gold jewelry?

Thanks,
EC

There will be a lot better answers than mine but I think I can get the ball rolling. This is how I understand it.
#1. The prospect mode is a true all metal mode. No discrimination.
#2. I don't know.
#3. In my opinion the prospecting mode would not be the best mode for hunting small gold jewelry when hunting the usual trashy parks, schools, playgrounds etc. Nothing to stop you from using prospecting mode in these areas but the noise from all the trash targets may drive you nuts.
I believe the MXT is pretty damn good at picking out those small gold jewelry items in either of the discriminate modes.

EC,

I preferred the C/J mode for small gold jewelry hunting. The MXT has enough gain and sensitivity to pick up small foil bits so the key is to be able to identify most of those by the audio response. By playing with the disc setting a bit the MXT's audio will breakup (sound ratty) on small foil yet give a good solid response on targets with a little more size/mass. The smaller coils are better on chains and small 10K white gold rings, but the difference is not great, so I preferred the stock and 6x9 DD for beaches for the better coverage they give.

The Eclipse 6x10DD is the best all around nugget hunting coil. The 4x6DD is great for very small nuggets and the 1400 deep scan is great for larger deeper nuggets. My limited experience in motherlode CA is to use the 6x10DD. Hope that helps a bit. HH
