MXT Question

Torkman

New member
I am new to the detecting world and am in the market for an MXT based on all of the reviews and the things that I would like to do with it. A couple of questions before I buy something...
1. How old is the oldest MXT (When did Whites start making them)?
2. Is there any new technology that has been introduced to the MXT over the years of its production that would suggest newer is better?
3. How much should I expect to pay for a like new but used MXT?
4. Headphones...I am completely deaf in my left ear. Are there headphones that would channel the detector sound to just my right ear?

Thanks in advance for helping me out....Merry Christmas

The Killer B brand makes a single cup set that I use and you can put on either ear. They're called Rattlers and are commonly used by Relic Hunters (including yours truly) to be able to hear environmental noises with the other side.

I concur with Canewrap on the single earphone, but don't see a problem with regular 2 cup sets as in either case, you won't hear out of the one ear so buy the best quality that suits you. Price on a decent used MXT will probably run from a low of 400/450$ to as much as 550/600$. I bought a lightly used one last June for 650$ that included the 4X6 and the 5.3 coils, plus the DX-1 sunray probe. A good deal considering the extras. As to changes over the years since it was introduced, I don't know - you might call or email White's about that. The MXT is an excellent detector and is greatly enhanced by the addition of one or two additional coils.
Merry Christmas,
Bill

Mxt's went into production in June 2002, there have been no changes. Rob

I received my MXT (from my hubby :cheekkiss:) shortly after they came out in 2002 and I love it. I can't say anything bad about it what so ever. I use to go through batteries like crazy, but now with my Sunray Pro Gold headphones, I've noticed I don't change batteries every 10 hours or so. I've used several different headphones $20-Casio, Mid range Gray Ghosts, and now the Sunray. They have two volume control knobs and believe me, when the volume is up, it screams in your ear. Also has a limiter so it doesn't blow your eardrum. I hardly ever have to change the batteries now. Could it have been the headphones using up the power????

IMHO, I would NOT be without my MXT. I know it like the back of my hand and it's one heck of a VERY reliable machine. No, there's not been any new upgrades to the technology of the MXT. Rob is right on with the price of a used one. Headphones: I've told you about mine. Good luck and happy holidays. Nancy

Thanks for all the great help! I bought a 2 year old MXT on ebay today fro $400. The guy said it is in excellent condition. I will keep an eye out for the Sunray headset. My concern was that maybe different tones came through the headsets on each side (L or R) kind of like stereo. That would obviously not work for me. But it appears that the Sunrays will work well with the MXT. I cannot wait to get it! Do you recommended the Foster MXT Edge book or is the manual good enough?

Cheers...have a very Merry Christmas!

I have that book. When my hubby got it for me, I didn't think I needed it. I've had my MXT over 5 yrs. and with going out basically every day in the summertime..... Well, you know the rest. I've heard it's an excellent book for a starter. I'm not a "techinical" speaker, but I do know the MXT. Top right switch....right middle round knob...etc.

The headphones are great. I wouldn't part with the Sunray Pro Gold either. But that's just my humble opinion. There's many good phones out there. Nancy

I was taling to Whites Center a few weeks back. If I remember right, the MXT is the same
as it 's always been. Nothing new added. I had enquired because I was going to buy a three years old used
MXT. My MXT has worked just great. No updates needed according to the Whites Rep.
