HI,
Was all set to buy a Whites M6 for ease of use but joined another forum And the consensus of opinion was that a Mxt pro would be a far better choice if finances allowed.I'm a semi retired 65 year old male living in upstate NY where the ground is really rocky. After reading some of these posts I'm at a loss.IS the mtx pro that much more difficult than the M6? Any help wuold be awesome

You don't mention whether you've had any experience with detectors, and the M6 is a good machine and is easy to operate. BUT the MXT or MXT Pro are more versatile and are still relatively easy machines to learn. I got comfortable with the MXT fairly quickly, but had been using detectors for some time when I got mine.

I had the MXT Pro and my friend the M6, i have tried both and the Pro feels much nicer to use due to the shaft set up, also you have more options on the Pro so i would go with that. On another note, i sold my Pro thinking that buying the Fisher F75 was going to be the next step up but that was a big mistake in my eyes, MXT Pro is more sensitive, superior iron see through and much better build quality. I am going back to the Whites MXT Pro and sticking with it.
Get the Pro....learn it and luv it!! (and keep it LOL)

Cheers,
Botto.

Did you see any depth advantage with the F75? I hear tales of 15 inches on a coin but I seriously doubt that.

Hi lakebom,i've owned both the M6 and now the MXT PRO so i can tell you a little about both. The M6 is an awesome machine with very little to fault...it's deep, sensitive and good in amongst the trash. My only concern with the M6 was the shaft set up as mentioned by Botto.....the M6 can start to feel a little heavy after prolonged use as the weight of the coil and shaft is above your hand rarther than under it.Overall though it's a cracking detector with a lot of performance and operation as simple as you can get.The MXT is another great machine with a lot more options as far target i.d goes so you are bound to find a perfect personal preference. Is it more difficult tham the M6 to use.......that depends on how you want to use it.You can set the MXT up to be an M6......single or multitone operation in coin/jewellry mode with silent search(no threshold)......used this way it's as easy as the M6 to use.....it's exactly the same. When you have had a little experience with the detector you can then start using the machines other modes and tone variations...there's a set up in this machine to suit everyone. You can also run the machine a little hotter than the M6 and also have the added feature of a threshold should you want to use that.So my advice is if you can afford the MXT that's the one i would go for.....you have an M6 in the MXT plus the MXT itself and then a little more....it's one of the best detectors available today. If you can't stretch to the MXT you won't be disappointed with the M6 either.....it's a top performer.
Regards,Neil.

I had never used a detector & a friend let me use his MXT, with very few instructions I went hunting. Two weeks later I had my own & after playing with it & reading the posts on this forum I began understanding how to ID different targets. With in 1 year I was finding more targets than a local guy that had been hunting for 30+ years. I have not use anyother MD & don't plan on trying anything unless I jump to the V3. You cant go wrong with the MXT.

The M6 is a scaled down version of the MXT Pro. The price difference between the 2 will be around $150. I just purchased the MXT Pro back in December when whites was doing their holiday promotion by including the pinpointer, headphones and carry case. I was quoted at $715 from one of the sponsors for the MXT Pro. So shop around for the best price.

Here is an unboxing video of the mxt pro:

Heres another video of the mxt pro from the same guy. Go on youtube and ask him any questions about the mxt pro:

Hello JHM, i would say that the Fisher is deeper than the MXT, but with a 12x10 SEF coil on the MXT there is not much in it really, the other advantages of the White over the Fisher appeals to me.. I detect in the UK where depth isn't the biggest advantage but iron see through is important for finding stuff among nails and iron on some of the old sites we detect on. A guy who runs a well known website in the UK used the MXT for years and sets up the MXT in relic, gain high as poss without going crazy, 2 tone with the discrim set to give the iron tone when a 3" nail is passed across the coil in the Vertical position, this is about 1.9 discrim. I used this setting and the MXT will pull coins right under nails set up like this. The fisher f75 cannot be set to do this, with a coin under a nail you will get the iron tone (if in 2 tone) and i have often wondered what i have been missing when in amongst iron . Also the build of the whites is second to none and i was quite dissapointed with the 75 build when i recieved it to be honest.
The F75 is a very very good detector, pretty deep and lighweight to boot. After using both the Whites is my choice for the type of hunting i do here in the UK.

cheers,
Gavin.
