MXT PRO

I'm new to Metal Detecting and I'm in the process of buying an MXT PRO. The PRO comes with a 12" Coil. I was thinking about buying the PRO with it's 12" Coil but I see some people don't like the 12" Coil while others like it. After reading so much bad about the 12" Coil I thought I would try and get the PRO with another Coil if the Dealer would swap and if he won't then getting the 12" and the 950. Any suggestions? I was also thinking about the 12" with a 6x10 DD or D2. HELP!

[size=large]i think you'll find that the pro is offered with the 950 coil instead of the 12". as you may have read most folks use the 12" only in areas free or somewhat free of trash. large fields like soccor and such. every coil has it's place. it's up to the hunter and what he/ she's after and where.your hunting.

It depends on what you plan to use it for. The 12 inch coil is one deep coil when it comes to relics. I dug a 58 cal bullet with mine at 14 inches deep. I sold the 12 inch to get a 12 by 15 sef for more coverage. Got to missing it and was lucky enough to be able to buy it back. If your coin hunting in areas where there's a fair amount of trash, you would be better off with something else. But if you relic hunt the 12 inch coil is nice to have.

Swinging that 12 inch coil will wear you out fast. I rarely use it. I use the 6 x 10 in trashier areas and the 10" DD in open, cleaner areas. Both are great coils. I've found the most relics w/the 10" DD.

I use my 12" in open areas like fields and beaches if not much trash. My favorite coils though are my D2(10") which seems to do well in moderate trash and my 5.3(6") in trashy areas. Good luck with whatever you buy for a coil......HH Jack

12 inch coil works great in fields and on short hunts but it will wear your arm out. Any of the coils mentioned above are good coils, you done made the most critical choice, The MXT is a great machine. I use SEF coils on mine and they work great for me in my high mineralized ground.
