MXT Pro With D2

Blind Dr

New member
I was surprised at how this coil turbo charged the MXT. Wow, is all I can say. I had the opportunity to take it out today for a short period and I hit an area I have detected before. Well 25 minutes later and I had over 8 bucks in clad, mostly quarters. The average depth was 3 inches. I know there are more there and will hit it again on Wednesday. I am still trying to learn this detector and this was the first run with the D2 coil. It works great in the typical trashy area. It just takes some practice to learn how to use it. Once I started to get the hang of it, I was able to sort out the junk and find the clad. I was also detecting within an arms reach of some electrical transformers the was next to some aluminum and steel bleachers. I can't wait to go over some other areas I have hunted before.

Has anyone tried a D2 on the M6? Just curious if it works as well. I am considering selling the M6 or trading it for a V3I. My son seems to be using the MXT Pro more now and knows more about it than I do. We have been looking at the V3I and also the Etrac as a next purchase. Any opinions?

The D2 is one of my favorite coils. It is very deep and I like using it for relic hunting. The selection of coils for the MXT is great!

I personally watched my buddy pull a silver half out at 8"+ with that machine and coil on a spot of ground that has been gone over a lot.... meaning that exact spot.
Was fairly dry and high minerals round here too.

I know this is hard to believe but I pulled a penny at 8 inches with my 5.3 inch coil. I love that coil. It didnt ID but it was a very faint signal so I dug it. I was so surprised the 5.3 reached down that far. I wouldnt want to dig much deeper than that.

I have had some great results with the 5.3 on the M6 and also the MXT Pro. I seem to like the D2 a little better. I was suprised at the seperation it provides. I am going to try it out today on the M6. I worked an area last night close to my home that I go to often. I covered it with the D2 coil and dug some more coins. I just need to figure out if it is me taking my time searching hard, or it is the coil doing the job.

Any of you guys try the V3I after owning an MXT? I know LArry is in love with his and I think he tried to talk me into one at some point.

The V3i is a very advanced machine but the ultimate in detectors. An easier to learn version is the VX3 Gary.

Thanks Larry, I keep looking at one, if I do buy one I think it will be the V3I. I just have to decide which detector my son wants. :) He keeps using both and I have to steal them when he is off at school.

As far as the D2 coil . . I like it a lot also in the right situation. Deep? . .yes . .frustrating? . . .sometimes. The coils tendency to misidentify bottlecaps as quarters (other DD's too for that matter) does push it down the line as far as which coil I choose. You can use the "edging" technique but that isn't 100% either and you have to remember to double-check first. It gets old quick after digging a few deep rusty "quarters" that's why I choose to opt for a concentric unless conditions dictate otherwise . . . MHO.
