mxt pro vs m6

[size=large]one of the big questions is, what are you gunna do with it? my understanding is that if you aren't interested in prospecting then get the m6.

I have both and I agree with widebody above. If not prospecting then go with the M6, easier turn on and go with less controls, slightly less weight, less cost and Tone ID which the MXT doesn't have. (I know the Pro does have tone ID, I have one).

I have used both and I honestly believe it comes down to personal preference. I had hunted with the MXT first and became accustom to a threshold type machine and when I went to the M6 it was quite relaxing but sometimes wondered if I was missing something being use to hearing the threshold on the MXT. If you check out this forum you will see great finds with both machines. It really comes down to budget, what all you will be hunting for and if you prefer a theshold or not. You can also hunt with the threshold silent on the MXT

Good luck in your decision!

For me having owned and used both the M6 & MXT I choose the MXT  which I use to this day. I like the MXT due to the threshold, prospecting and relic mode features. The MXT and I am pretty sure the MXT Pro can be set up to silent search like the M6 with a big plus being in this mode if you have experience you can drive the gain up set the threshold down just below the more erratic noise due to the higher gain. when set this way and can get a depth benefit in certain hunting situations as described on page 23 of the MXT manual. If you can afford the benefits of the MXT I would take a hard look at it, don't get me wrong the M6 is a great little detector as well. At the end of the day go with the detector you like for your own reasons not someone else's. You will be a lot more happy this way with the end result.

Happy & Safe Hunting To All, :beers:

Hi MEV,

Your question is a very simple one. However, it is hard to give a simple answer when we do not know your preferences in detector behavior nor how you plan to use the detector.

If you plan to do any nugget prospecting, then the answer would be the MXT Pro is the better detector. The MXT Pro has a Prospecting mode that works very well and the M6 does not.

If you plan to do Relic hunting then the MXT Pro would again be the better choice. An M6 will find relics but since the MXT Pro has a separate Relic hunting mode, the MXT Pro has the advantage.

For Coin & Jewelry hunting deep targets, the MXT Pro still has the edge since it has a Threshold. The MXT Pro threshold Whisper will alert to deep targets that the M6 will miss. And threshold nulling on the MXT Pro will alert the user to slow down and / or switch to a smaller coil as the trash level increases.

If what you are looking for is a quiet machine primarily for Coin & Jewelry hunting with an occasional Relic hunt, then the M6 might be best for you. It will produce LOTS of great finds for you. However, you need to be aware that the M6 will not find targets quite as deep as the MXT Pro. And because the M6 has no Threshold to alert you about the trash level, you may swing too quickly through a high trash area with an M6 and miss good targets.

By the way, you can adjust the threshold to silent on an MXT Pro and it will operate exactly like an M6 silent search. You cannot adjust an M6 to operate like an MXT Pro.

Both are high quality, fun to use, detectors. And both will produce lots of good finds. The M6 will deliver more peaceful hunts.

Good luck and have fun.
Bob
