MXT-Pro Smoking ! Need ideas on how to clean clad coins ?

Took the MXT Pro out today for some work. Did well yesterday but really got the "swing" of it today. Found lots of clad at an old baseball park in a few hours..... but still no silver yet  ? As mentioned earlier, found a 1928 Knights of Columbus pendant yesterday. The MXT Pro performed like a Pro for me ! The high tones for high VDI #'s is a great addition. Anyway, now I got lots of dirty coins. Purchased a small time rock polisher today from the hobby shop. It does ok but looking to do better. What are the best solutions/mixtures to put inside it to: a) clean dimes, nickles & quarters and b) to clean pennies. Thanks. CCH

Do the pennies separate from the clad. I use a few drops of dish soap, a half of a steel wool pad, and a spoonful of aquarium gravel. The steel wool pad and the gravel can be used several times over. John

Lots of ways to tumble them EJ, I use a handful of sand, and a couple drops of detergent. On the silver colored coins, I run them for 12 hours and they come out looking new. On the cents, I add some vinegar and they are done in about an hour. I run about a half to 2/3 a barrel full at a time and add water or vinegar to just cover the coins.

Thanks guys. I experimented with the steel wool with a few rocks & detergent method. It worked very very well. Others should try this method; especially if you dont like the smell of vinegar hanging around after you are done. CCH

I use ammonia and baking soda with plastic diamonds to tumble my coins.

all pennies together in one tumbler and all the other silver in another tumbler.

My tumble time is about 10 to 15 minutes and most of them come out sparkling clean.

Other really bad ones take a little longer. But never do I tumble real silver or any wheat backs...thats a nono.

Hope this helps....John:wiggle:

I tumble clad and pennies seperate. I use a few aquarium rocks, water and a little dish soap. let them tumble for 24hrs and they look very good. Maybe less time, but I tend to load them up. All stuff that is readily available.
