MXT Pro - Question???

Hello to all and Happy Hunting...

I just recently replaced the Gain switch in my White's MXT Pro with a new one sent to me directly from White's. The reason for replacing this Gain switch was that my detector was randomly powering down during movement or if lightly bumped against me or something while hunting. Anyway I put the new switch in and ever since then my detector shows on the screen that is is picking up aluminum even when it is held up in the air and near nothing aluminum or metal at all. It also keep a constant broken tone like it is picking up something and this is even with my thresh-hold turned all the way down(to the left/counter clockwise). Along with this my VDI numbers are no longer anywhere near accurate though the machine does still find stuff, it is just a pain to use due to the non stop sounds and screen that shows VDI numbers and readouts even when there is nothing there. Any way I contacted White's about this and they said the Gain Switch Could not do this, so I am lost. Have any of you ever had this problem?

Also does anyone have the wiring schematics for this detector, mine is a MXT Pro made in 2013.

I am going to put the old gain switch back in it and see if that fixes this problem and if so, I would rather have the detector randomly cutting off than being so noisy and giving false readings as after spending over a year learning this machine and just now getting to where I think I understand the tones a little bit I hate that I can no longer go by them. The readout screen doesn't bother me as much, as I hunt by sound for the most part and only pay attention to the screen when pin-pointing, but the sounds being messed up drives me nutty...

Hi. Sorry to hear that.
Sounds like a wire was hurt during assembling the machine.
The schematics won't help a lot.
Sounds like it's time for some service.

I'm also sorry about your machine. I would have Whites take a look at it and they will get it up and running like it should.

Thanks, for the responses, I was hoping for a solution other than sending it to White's, because I will hate to be without it as as none of my spares are it's equal and I am not sure I will be able to afford the cost of having it fixed.

I believe they can give you a price after looking it over. They have had a fast turnaround in the past when my old MXT needed re-calibrated.

keep in mind that if its something serious, it could be ALOT less expensive to fix it now than it will be after it smokes.....
Whites will treat you right, they aren't in the business of price gouging in their repair shop...

Good Morning Folks... I got out to hunt with an out of town visitor yesterday afternoon and about 1/2 way through the hunt decided to put my old switch back in that had just been randomly powering down my detector when you bumped it or if you were using the pin-pointer without the head phones. Long story short, contrary to what the tech from White's said, it was the brand new Gain Switch they had sent me, as once I put the old switch back in everything went back to normal and my machine was working fine, other than it is back to shutting off at random, but that is better than the Tones and VDI readings being completely off. An Example of how off they were was the fact that I dug a 1942 Mercury Dime and it registered as an 18 on my VDI and pennies registered as nickles.

I had a DFX that would randomly shut down.
I found the contact points for the battery needed to be tweeked out a little.
Maybe you've already considered that.
Until I opened up the box and did the adjusting I used a piece of cardboard as a shim at the battery door.
That fixed my problem.

Thanks Tbone1, but it is the switch, with the new one it would stay on without any problem, but with the old one it randomly goes off when bumped...

I have not compared the wiring on the switches, but will before contacting White's...

Spent several hours hunting with old switch in it today, and the only problem I had was when It bumped something it would shut off, but it will always come right back on.
