MXT Pro Question

When my machine is set on C&J, preset Disc., + 2 Gain, ground is 67, using a 5.3 coil this is what happens all the time. However, the setting and coil makes no difference, the following happens more often then not using my 950 coil and different settings also .

I hit a target, get a good high tone, reading in the 70s, makes no difference if target is shallow or deep. I switch to prospecting mode and get a 10% reading, I switch back to C&J, pinpoint and dig my target....low and behold an iron target. Why is this always happening ?

I am finding a lot of good targets and don't want to mess with the machine because I am really getting used to it, but I am curious why it isn't identifying the iron target better than it is.

While running very high or maxed out gain I'll pop some rusty coin sized iron up that beeped pretty good with some good numbers. Try lowering your gain about 20% and see if it helps. This is with the 5.3 and 950 coil too.

I used an MXT Pro today with D-2 coil in dry as dry gets mineralised dirt today....
No effect, got 1 hot wheels and 1 clad dime both round 2".
When was wetter it kicked butt.....
Settings were min disc, min thresh, highest stable sens.Tone ID on. C&G GB locked after GB.
Still crapolla.....
I wont mention other detectors used but they got some stuff.. clad BS jewlry etc....Some deep.
What I do wrong with MXT Pro?

All I can tell you is in the C&J mode I too have gone into prospecting mode and observed a 10% iron detection indication only to dig down and read iron....that is with the 12" coil also.

This sounds like you might be running the gain a little to high, when you use the MXTs in the 10,+1, +2, +3 setting you are multipling the signal 16 times,
from 8 to just under 10 multiplies the gain 8x and from 5.5 ? to 8 multiplies the signal 4x, so if you are digging alot of Iron then you must turn it down
because its like driving in Fog with your headlights on high beam, in order to see better you have to use Low beam to drive in Fog,
Or play a Radio to loud it will distort so if you lower the volume the sound become clearer and your detector does the same,
Don't worry about turning it down you will get better signals and therefore find the targets instead of blinding your detector,
I hope this helps, Good luck.

I get better depth using relic mode. I'll then sometimes switch to C & J to help ID. But on diggin' trash, they all will fool you some times. A lot of variables which favor/hurt machines differently. There is no perfect machine, but the MXT will hang w/most of them.
