Mxt pro overload question

ronhob

Member
I've been experimenting some more with the mxt pro, and I've come to notice that it will overload on targets such as a bottle cap that are on the surface. I have turn the gain down to around 5 to get it to stop overloading on the bottle cap as I skim over the top of it or as I center it inside the 950 loop. I am in doors testing, so maybe that has something to do with it to. Funny thing is, quarters don't seem to bother even at the preset? I read a couple of others had this problem with pull tabs. Any one else have the same results? Is this normal for the mxt pro? I don't want to send it in already if there's no need, but I guess it's better now than after warranty runs out if it has something wrong it. Please share some insight.

Indoor testing is a no no as I have found out with my mxt pro. With my new garrett I can tell there is junk about 6 inches below the floor board that will make it go crazy. Plus I live in an apartment on the top floor so I know there are lots of junk below. Test outside. I never overload on bottle caps but I do on beer cans near the surface. Dont worry about the warranty- Whites will do free tune ups. You just have to pay for shipping. Remember the mxt is a very sensitive machine.; My vdi's jump all over the place when 2 or more items are below the surface. Test outside!

Unfortunately , I think my new toy is going to have to go in for a check up:ranting:
I went outside with the mxt pro today and tested a quarter with preset settings and works fine, but the bottle cap continues to overload the mxt pro at a gain setting of 5 and that's holding the 950 coil an inch over top it.I have another coil coming Friday, so I will eliminate that variable before I send it off. I've done the computer reboot as well, and it didn't seem to help.
I'll just mention that while first trying the different tones in relic mode, I thought the mix iron mode goofed up once or twice before the reset. It wouldn't recognize a clad quarter or dime one of the times.
Probably best to get it checked even though it hasn't done that since. Hard to know if somethings off when you first try a new machine. Most the time it's my error, but this time I think it's the machine. Man I hate the thought of sending off a detector I just got! The Pro is markless and has never seen the outdoors and has a year of warranty left, yet something went wacky. Kinda odd, but whatever I guess!

Very sensitive it is.
I have the older MXT with the 950 coil and get overloads on bottle caps
on top of the soil most times.Usually ignor it.
Your sounds super senstive, possible problems maybe.

Talked to Mary at White's today and she tested an mxt pro, with the 950,out in the shop and could not get it to overload on a bottle cap even above the preset. She said it's most likely the null in the coil that is bad, since the high targets don't overload the machine. White's is taking care of me by sending me a new coil.
If this doesn't solve the problem, then I will have to send it in. I will let everyone know what happens.

Unbelievable how this company goes out of their way to make sure they have a satisfied customer. White's has won me over with their great service!:clapping: Very down to Earth, wholesome people to deal with!
