MXT PRO or DFX 300

I have a chance to buy a MXT PRO ( New ) or a DFX ( 2 years old in good condition ) for the same price ! ( $750.00 ) I have read on some of the fourms that you have to have the DFX tuned up every so often, does anybody know if that is true?. Has anybody used both, I hunt mostly Parks and Fresh Water Beaches, in central California. Thanks

Hi I own a DFX and have swung a MXT. When I bought the DFX I was also looking at the MXT. I went with the DFX because it was more adjustable ( a plus and a minus for some) and because it is much more stable on beaches since by design the dual freq cancels out the salt. Both are great detectors and have strong followings. I would ask myself a couple of questions.

1. If saltwater beaches are some place I would like to hunt with some level of success - DFX
2. If I wanted to prospect for gold - MXT
3. If I want total (well almost) control of discrimination filters tones, freq extra - DFX
4. If I want a shorter learning curve - MXT
5. If I like relic hunting - its a toss in my opinion

Hopes that helps

P.S. I am looking to trade my DFX - why you may ask well I am considering doing some recreational prospecting and I do not live by a saltwater beach. If I lived in California and was not thinking about gold prospecting I would keep the DFX because I really like hunting beaches and it does beaches very well.

P.S P.S I am not aware of any regular tuning requirements. From what I have read the DFX inside are more alike then deferent. The MXT has high gain circuit designed to hit hot on small gold and has a revamped ground tracking system but much of the guts is the same so if one needs tuning then the other would as well but again I could be completely wrong.
