i own a xlt and a mxt i just picked this machine up on cl for $200 says mxtpro m9 only difference to regular mxt pro is it doesnt have toggle switch on left side of box. i dont plan to use it i just wanted the 6x10 dd coil that was on it but if someone can help me find some info on this id appreciate it

That is a new one for me, do you have a picture of it?

It is a prototype of the MXT Pro. Same machine just a little different layout called it a M9 and sent it to people to try out. Works just like the pro.

i have used it and it is in excellent working order. i have found a 1776 spanish 2reale 1730 british half cent 1806 large cent and hand full of mercs rosie wheats and clad. i just want to find more info on it cause i havent seen a mxt m9 and was thinking i had a hybrid of m6 or something

Thats really interesting! At the very least it would surely appreciate in value since it is a prototype and probably next to impossible to find one available to purchase. I notice it has 2 knobs for SAT and Disc, which was combined into whats called the dual control on the final MXT Pro. Another intriguing difference is the PROG button. I assume this toggles between C/J, Relic & Prospecting modes. Also, it appears to be missing the toggle switch on the right side as well, replaced by a push button below the screen called 'STAT/TRAC MODE'. I wonder if it is missing the SALT function of the ground balance? Thanks for posting the pics! You should not let it go too cheaply until you know if its valuable.

ive owned it for about 9 months have had plenty of use out of it the stat trac button changes the mode for ground minerals like salt and harder minerals. someone told me when i first got it that it belonged to a man by the name of bob lavoy a retailer for whites in ny which makes sense now if it is a proto type

I bet if you contacted Whites they would let you know how many were produced. It apparently never was offered for sale, but just sent to select retailers to 'test' and send in their thoughts to help finalize the end product. There may be a serial number that Whites could tell how many were made before/after this one such as number 50 of 200 or so. It couldn't hurt to talk to them.

I would be very happy to have it, if it allows SAT adjustments on relic mode that thing must rock

Am curious, how is the THRESHOLD controlled on the prototype?

The first pic shows the threshold knob which is located on the right side of the detector. I would think it would be the same except for being in a different location.

Is the SAT useable in all modes or only Prospecting mode? If it is useable in all modes I do not understand why Whites didn't keep this option. Someone made a bad decision not having an adjustable SAT for all modes.

you can use it in all modes and nfs
Is there a manual that explains that or any other source to determine this? I can imagine that Whites foresaw customers being confused by a standalone knob for SAT and would 'try' to adjust SAT in C/J mode to no avail not realizing it was not doing anything. This is most likely the reason they built the SAT and DISC controls into one because you can only adjust one OR the other at any given time in the final product.
Also, what is nfs?
