MXT Pro First Run

Blind Dr

New member
Today I was pleased to see the MXT Pro made it to me. Thanks Kenny! My son and I put it together, and decided to try it out in our yard. We also took the M6 to run some side by side comparisons. I was using both stock coils on each of the units. I had the Pro in coin mode. I was happy to come across a couple of targets right away. My son also used the M6 and both machines hit them hard and were very close to the same VDI numbers. We spent the next hour in the side yard where we dug about 12 coins, nothing old, mainly quarters and nickels. Both machines performed very well. I decided to play with some of the settings on the MXT Pro and opened up the threshold and let her sing. About 10 minutes of this and I had a headache...but, I hit some deeper targets that I had passed over with the M6. I dug up a couple of pennies at 12 inches, and found some type of token around 12-13 inches. I decided to check around an old tree and was able to find a couple of small copper bracelets. It was quite a surprise. I had been around the tree with the M6 and don't know if I just missed them or what. I like the larger coil on the MXT and I really like the added features that the Pro has. It performs like the M6 on steroids. My 11 year old was able to use it right away and soon had the machine humming away. He made some other finds in the neighbors yards and came back with about 3 bucks in change. " I love it dad" were his exact words and with that, I lost another machine. He and my nephew were walking down the road with the MXT and the M6 looking for some new adventures. Why did I buy this one again? Oh yes, so I would have a machine to use. So it looks like I am going to get used to the coinmaster again :)

Overall this machine is great! Hopefully this weekend, I can sneak off and get some time with it. I just have a question for those of you that use one. Where is the best place to set the threshold? I was setting it so it would stop chirping. How about the gain?

One thing I did notice, we are not able to run these machines very close to one another. They both acted up and we had to stay about 40 plus feet away from each other. We never had that problem with the M6 and the coinmaster.

Glad you like the Pro and it sounds like you get plenty of depth with it. The M6 and MXT Pro operate on the same frequency, 14 KHz while the Coinmaster runs in the 8.3 KHz range. You might want to try calling White's service and ask if they can offset the frequency of the M6 or Pro to help with the interference. Sometimes with the right offset, two units can hunt side by side.

you want be able to run them side by side because I believe they are on the same frequency. I set my threshold on a barely audible hum and the gain where it is stable. about the preset point I think with the big 12, but all the way up on the gain with the SEF coil. Great story and hope you get your machine back soon. LOL

Loved the story.........LOVED IT! I know you will like that MXT PRO the more you use it. Great finds and thanks for sharing with us. No telling what else is in your yard. Keep detecting it, you're in a heck of a good location to come up with some really nice keepers. HH, Nancy

[size=large]don't know why you want to go side by side. put some distance between ya. cover your own spaces . you're still hunting together.
i would think anything closer than 40' is a little crowded. checking out the you tube vids folks aren't hunting on top of each other and are still hunting buddies. i have to wonder what effects on the coils, if any would be had if the freq. were messed with. might be very very very small. i for one would just adjust the distance and call it good. i think it's great you two hunt together.also awfully trusting of you to allow your 11 yr.old and his buddy to take off with $1400+ worth of machines with-out some adult to insure it's not taken from them. shows i was raised in the big bad city.

We actually were not hunting side by side. I made no mention of that at all. I could also care less what other "folks on you tube" are doing. I enjoy my son and we enjoy spending time together, why do this if you can't spend quality time together? It is easy to look for the bad, much harder to look at the good in people. Give it a try sometime, it doesn't cost a penny!

I've been in the same situation. The MXT and M6 need to be separated by a fair distance or the crosstalk will make detecting near impossible. I set the threshold to just audible and the gain as high as possible, yet still stable, not extra noisy.

Some of my best memories are when Larry and I hunted close by each other. WAIT, that was every time we went hunting together. Wonderful memories and we came home with many MANY great finds that are priceless to us. Keep it up Gary and your son will always remember these times together with wonderful memories. Icing on the cake! HH, Nancy

Frequency off-set is built in on some units and it is just a minor change in frequency. 14.1, 14.2, 14.3 as an example............. it does not alter performance. Hunting close together is nice and you can share finds and other chit chat. Nancy and I often hunted within feet of each other especially in small yards and she liked to "call her shots" and often was right. I would hear her say this sounds like a good one and I would stop and watch her pull a silver out of the ground. I think it is great that Blind Dr. is spending time with his son who loves the same hobby, that alone is priceless. Go Gary.....:clapping: Life here in a small town is a little more laid back than in a bigger city and kids are pretty well looked after by the community......... parents sometimes knows what their children are doing before they even get home........... Been there, done that.........:argue:

[size=large]just so you can undo the knot in your shorts. the comment was made by you that you couldn't run your machines close together or as some would call it,"side by side". second it was noted how good it is to hunt with the son. nobody said it wasn't?
if your happy in your little town then great. lived in small and large cities and towns. been there lived that.

I had the cross talk problem hunting with my friend that hunts with a "Green" machine.
I changed from my 10 D2 to my 6X9 and most all of the problem was solved.
They only "talk" when we are right next to each other... 5ft or so.
And we do sometimes end up right next to each other, but most of the time are 20ft to 40ft or more apart.

Good for you Blind Dr... that is what life is about...
Making memories and remembering the good ones...
And you can't beat the ones you'll have making them with your son.
Keep it up....

Well I think I have figured out how to handle the chatter. We take turns hunting. Gives me a chance to wipe off my brow with all this silly heat we have.

I agree Larry, small town life is nice, that is why we moved here 16 years ago. I was tired of Peoria and all of its unique problems.

We had a little mishap today while hunting in some light wooded area. I found a target and turned to yell at my son. I naturally just knelt down to prepare to dig and boy did I get a surprise! Next to me was a small bush, about 2 feet away and all of a sudden these nasty ground bees came flying out! I screamed like a little girl! Yep, I sure did. I managed to get away with only a few stings. My son couldn't stop laughing as I was spitting out words that were very inappropriate and running like mad. I heard him tell me "dad...stop running and calm down, they are attracted to the increase in co2 output coming from your mouth" sometimes you just want to hang your kids up by their ankles. It was still a fun time. We laughed all the way home.

Golden memories you're making there. Those are the treasures that will really be precious even when the gold and silver loses it's significance. . . .great story.

Another great experience while out together! PRICELESS! It was at your expense, but I bet it was well worth it?! HH, Nancy
