MXT PRO Dilemma

I am in a bit of a dilemma, I have a machine from the land down under that can find some real deep silver, I also have a M6 that does pretty good, but not as deep. The problem is I do not have near as much fun detectin with the first machine as I do with my Whites M6. So I am thinking about getting the MXT Pro. Do you folks see a great gain in depth using the new MXT and does this sound like a logical move?

Good post Steve, I asked the same question on another forum and am waiting for a reply. I have a M6 and love it but since the pro has tones I've been wondering if a switch would be worth it. I bought my M6 for it's tones & simplisity but now I think I could do some tweeking on my own so the MXT dose'nt scare me the way it use to. May take some getting use to a threshold machine, the silent search is nice but more depth would be nicer.

on the whites videos for the xlt, an older machine and tech than the mxts, that silent search doesn't cost lost depth. so would that not apply to the mxts?

Silent search can be obtained with a threshold machine, but i have run across many targets that don't give a VDI reading but do change the sound in the threshold and maybe a very light tone. I just figured I would have missed a couple targets that were fairly deep if I was running in "silent" search mode with my MXT. Just my thoughts on the matter though, feel free to correct me if I am mistaken on this.

No correction necessary Lucky, you are 100% right and that is why most of us like the threshold tone.

Exactly the reason for Whites to come out with a M6 Pro. Threshold adjustment, back lite, tones and grab buttons. I would like to see 2,3,4 and 7 tones. Throw the D2 coil on it too.

So do I only loose like an inch in depth with my M6? I f that's the case I'll just hold on to it since I'm so happy with it. I don't prospect so that's not an issue just thought maybe the new MXT was a few inches deeper in the same soil conditions.

I don't think it adds up to an inch nailbender, the threshold just gives a small advantage to the hunter who is willing to listen to what the detector is telling him. If you are happy with the M6, there is no reason to upgrade just for the threshold IMHO. The M6 is a very capable machine.

Thank's Larry that's kinda what I thought. I did a couple of air test pulling my trigger back as if pinpointing thinking this is probably what a threshold machine would sound like and saw very little differance in depth but could here the wispers in the threshold when I raised the coil just above the vdi range. I may switch someday but I really do like the silent search. I've never tried an MXT but with the tones I bet you can set it so you don't have the threshold and it's the same as an M6 or darn close.
