1. Old cellar foundations in the woods.... The 5.3 Eclipse due to brush, rocks, debris.

2. Field searching.... The 950 if the area is open and not heavily littered. the 5.3 Eclipse if there is dense brush or quite a few targets (good and bad) to deal with, especially iron nails, etc.

3. Beach... Perhaps the 12" in the very open areas, if you can handle the additional front-end weight for a good length of time, but usually the 950. If working the upper areas of beach where there are campfires and heavy little, then the 5.3 Eclipse.

4. Along rivers and ponds, ( NOT in the water ).... Most of my hunting wit the MXT in these environments calls for the 5.3 Eclipse because the 6

I would agree 100% with Monte on the 5.3 eclipse coil, it has become my "go to" coil in almost all of my hunting areas, other than that I use the 950 or the 12" if my shoulder feels up to it. I tried the 6x10 eclipse but it wasn't the coil for me but thats just my humble opinion, I'm far from a veteran.

Monte, Thanks for the excellent reply, it's exactly what I was looking for. Let's hear from you other MXT users on the subject.:help:

Monte couldn't have said it better. The 5.3" coil is a fantastic little coil for tight spots and trashy spots. It's one of my "jewel" coils. HH, Nancy

I should have my MXT Pro (with a D2) in the mail tomorrow and so I'm wondering why the 5.3 over the 4x6? I live in an area with a good amount of mineralization and I'll be spending allot time in ghost towns, logging camps, mining camps, homesteads myself.

Would like to hear some pro/con on that myself, i.e., 5.3 vs 4x6dd

Well I'm far from an expert but taking a guess from what I think I have learned on this forum I would say the 5.3 would have better depth and the 4x6 would have better separation & work better in mineralized soil. I have mild ground here and use the 5.3 allot on my M6 and really like it. I also use the 6x8 SEF and really like it, it's a very sensitive coil for sure.
