MXT PRO at the beach

TNreb

New member
I am going to Myrtle Beach in June and want to take my machine. I have never beach hunted before so I am looking for some tips on the MXT PRO there. Will it work in salt water and/or wet sand? How do I set it up for the beach?

My MXT PRO with the 8x6 SEF works very well in the dry sand, and can function in the wet salt sand ( I am in NJ).

Wet sanding with the MXT is tricky. You can't run it with a lot of gain, you have to up the discrimination a bit, and once you GB in salt mode, switch over to Lock. Also, use a bit slower sweep speed than normal. It may be me, but the SEF on the MXT works better with a moderate to slower sweep than the concentric 9.5 or 5.3.

I don't use the D2 much on the MXT now that I got the SEF.

All in all, bring that baby down to the beach. Even if you can't hunt the wet, there is always stuff in the dry and with the tone ID you coin hunt, and even take a stab gold jewelry hunting using Prospecting mode.

Versatile, great detector.

As therover said above, the MXT isn't the greatest on the wet sand but it works excellent on the dry. Just run it in Coin/Jewelry mode with the Disc set just high enough to eliminate nails. I wouldn't run it in prospecting as every rusty bit of iron will drive you nuts. Your MXT will hit the gold jewelry in the coin/Jewelry mode as long as you don't have the Disc set too high.

I have hunted a good bit with my MXT Pro along the Gulf and Florida beaches and have made lots of good finds. It is awesome in the dry sand, good in the wet sand, but has not performed well for me near the surf's edge and further out; regardless of what i've tried.
