MXT Pro 5.3 coil Deep also

boneykid

New member
Was in a city park today with my MXT Pro and had the 5.3 coil on. Dug some nickels, dimes, but mostly Zincolns. None over 3" deep. Then I started heading out into an open area toward a huge Sycamore tree. Wasn't really swinging , but the coil was close to the ground. I'm very new to detecting , but the beep I heard just sounded interesting. The detector said 7" deep. I finally pulled the class ring out at about 9". I don't believe in luck, but there couldn't have been that much skill involved. I was pumped. When I become less technically challenged I'll learn how to use my new digital camera and then learn how to post some of my finds. I'm finding my new ProPointer to be invaluable. It has cut recovery time in half at least.

Great job! I always have my coil to the soil as I walk. I quickly sweep it back and forth about 12 inches as I walk. Even though you were walking you were hunting! RING a DING!

[size=large]take that machine and crank it up. put the gain in 3+ and run in relic. very noisy but that will get you your best depth. maybe you already have it there if your getting seven inches with the 5.3 . become one with the noise. let the noise flow thru you and bring you to good targets like that gold ring. may the forse be with you. :starwars: no i'm not drunk. i don't drink. just have my fun.

Thanks for the info, widebody. I was running in CJ mode. I find myself more and more not looking at the numbers and just listening. I'm gonna try relic mode.

Great find! Do you remember what the vdi reading was?

They all count boneykid . . .great find ! Keep on getting comfortable in C/J mode and when you're ready try out Relic/alternate mode (with the trigger forward). The high/low tones add another dimension to the info you're getting and really helps to sniff out targets. If you like it you'll rarely, if ever go back to C/J. Good luck . .

I am amazed at the depth this little coil can get when ran at +3 . It's a pleasure using in the woods around a lot of obstructions ( trees/brush ) compared to my 950. JMHO

The MXT is a sensitive machine and can be noisy. I know than many people will tell you that if you aren't COMPLETELY stable, "you just don't have it adjusted right". That is no where near the truth! If I played it that safe with the adjustments all the time, pssst, so many targets would not have been found it isn't even funny. (This all was with my DFX and tone ID, but still, a repeating signal is a repeating signal.) Even though I don't own an MXT, I seem to have a chance to swing them quite a bit and love 'em. . Plus, that 5.3 is a have to have coil with whatever Whites box you run and if your running it hot...........my record with my V3i is an 1876 dime at 9 1/2 inches. (MXT would have been close to that I'd imagine.) It's whole design is a spin off from the GMT and it shows.
