MXT or MXT Pro

A question for those who have used both or if you have some information to submit on either. I already own an MXT and find it to be one of, if not the best, VDI detectors I've ever owned, and I've owned all the top brands, top dollar detectors. So I'm looking to maybe get another MXT or the MXT Pro. I read about the differences but from some one who's used the Pro, is it that much different and maybe even better then the original MXT?

I really like the multi tones. If I'm in a really trashy park and don't want to dig alot of junk I just listen for high tones. This is not so productive because alot of targets are left behind but some parks are not good places to tear up too much. There is a considerable difference in tone with a clad penny and a copper penny for example. As well as nickel and clad penny. I listen to tones instead of turning the disc up to ignore targets because too much disc causes depth loss. I would assume if your using an MXT and don't want to dig nickel signals you either watch very closely at the LCD screen --OR-- you turn the disc up to ignore nickel signals. I don't have to do either of those with the PRO. I still hear nickel signals but they are very obvious since the tone is specific to that VDI range. You might ask 'whats the problem with discing out nickels and acheive the same goal?', The problem is that its useful information to know where your getting nickel signals and even iron signals if your in an old homestead area and want to narrow down your hunt area. You can still do that with the MXT but you will have to either stare intently at the screen or turn the disc down and the iron and nickel signals will still sound the same as pennys and dimes, ect. I made a video awhile back demonstrating how well the MXT PRO can tell the difference between clad and copper pennies. It just so happens to demonstrate the tones very well so I'll attach it here so you can see what I'm talking about.....

PS: The PRO version cannot find MORE than the MXT but its like having a sports car with or without leather interior. The MXT is awesome, the PRO just makes it more fun to use. It has several added features, I only covered my favorite one.

I have a MXT and I like it very much, I do miss the multi tone function though (I have that in the V3i). My personal opinion is, if money is no issue get a Pro, even if the ONLY real advantage I see are the tones, the other things like ground grab (can be done with the MXT as well) or the Backlit display (wich is useless unless you plan in using a nighvision gogles while detecting), are just gadgets.

Thanks for the reply and the great video. I almost exclusively use the VDI numbers on my MXT to determine what I have below the coil when I comes to coins, although I can see where those tones would give an added advantage. I'm also not a fan of larger coils and would per fer the smaller 9.5" but I don't think you can get that version of the MXT Pro any more. Decisions, decisions.
Thanks again.

There is only one model of the PRO as far as I know, but your right about the coil being different nowadays. They labelled the MXT several ways but they were all the same(minor finish variations) just shipped with different coils. I think Whites is bundling their top end machines with the new D2 coil now. I have the 950 and the D2, I like both but they are very different coils. The 950 is MUCH better for beginners since it VDI's so true and pin points easier. The D2 is great for seperation in heavy trash and balances better in mineralization, although the VDI's read high. The D2 covers more ground per pass so your less likely to overstep a target and miss it. Thats enough de-railing, not trying to highjack anything.

Mike you are correct in that the MXT/ Pro is the best on the market. It is the most amazing detector I have ever used.
I have an MXT and Have Had the M6. I did not care for the muliti Tone feature.
The Ground Grab, I feel is not real important as I hunt in the locked position with the MXT and every so often toggle to auto for a couple of swings and back to lock.
I use the 5.3 for 90% of my hunting and in my ground, using very minimal discrimination, I can pull dimes regularly at 9". I once hit a silver ring at 11" and ( it read pull tab ) only dug it because I didn't believe the detector would go that deep. I have hit dime size gold pendents at 7".
Unless you really like the muliti tone feature and have a use for the back lite, The MXT will do it all.

[size=large]i believe someone on the detector classifieds is selling a pro with the 950 coil and at a darn good price. check it out.
since the pro came out in fall of 2020 it won't be 2 yrs. old yet.

I had a 5.3 and sold it - what was I thinking!?? I just ordered the MXT Tracker today. It's for my son's b-day. He's a fan of the 9.5 so. . . Maybe with the money I saved, I can swing the 5.3, hmmm. . .

Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated.

Thanks for all the comments and feedback on the units. I just ordered the MXT Tracker. It's for my son's b-day and he really likes mine.

Your son will love the MXT and do good. If you can pick up a 5.3 you will have whites secret weapon.

Congratulations to your son for his birthday... that is going to be a very nice present for sure. As for the coils, I like the 10x6DD very much even though I have them all (almost) I have 300, D2, 10x6, and the 5.3 also have a 8"DD excellerator that is awsome on the MXT...
