MXT on its way !

Hey Folks,
I have been following and reading all the great info exchanges on the MXT. This unit is loaded with a ton of options and probably well suited for every use imaginable.
From what I have gathered so far, it seems, in order to find the deeper elusive coins, the COIN program is not necessarily the BEST way to go. Which is?
I would appreciate hearing how you would set it up to provide the BEST performance to get the deep coins from a field with minimal minerals, the coins are way deeeeeep.
Thanks
Tony

<STRONG>Hey Tony,
The Relic mode seems to be much "hotter" than the coin/jewelry mode. In your mild soil, I would think you can run the sensitivity up into the + ranges without much unstability. You might also want to run the disc at "2" or just below, to knock out most small iron. Run the trigger in the center so you hear both ferrous and non-ferrous tones. There is a low tone for iron, and a high tone for non-ferrous. I usually get my ground balance and then switch the ground tracking switch to lock. It seems to run a bit smoother. If you think the ground might have changed, you just have to switch back to ground to update the balance. The MXT continues to "monitor" the ground while the switch is in the "Lock" position, but doesn't affect it until you switch to tracking. I also lower my threshold to just barely audible to silent after I get set up. The machine will be "noisey" but when it hits non-ferrous, you'll know it.
I've only used it coin hunting for about an hour, but it worked quite well. My soil read 78 where I was hunting. Didn't find anything special, but this thing seems to like dimes.
I'm sure you'll get more responses from experienced users. I'm still learning this one but I really like it for relic hunting and received good advice from several people before I decided to try it. Glad I listened. You might also want to go to the Whites website and read the engineering report and field test. Good information in both of those.
Good hunting,
Otto...

... in your soil, I'd definately use the Relic mode most of the time, unless at a really trashy site. If uncertain about a target, you can toggle forward and go back to the C & J mode. I recommend using ONLY iron-level rejection; dig all non ferrous. Hope this helps; HH Jim. PS Hey Otto, I knew your soil would be about the same as mine! Glad you like the MXT (knew you would)

Good luck with the MXT, it's a great machine and I think you'll like it.

Hi Tony,
Good to hear you are going to try the MXT, I think you will like this detector. For me it is the best Whites i have ever used, plus fun and easy also.
I found the relic mode is the best for me with the 2 differnt tones as i am used to the Sovereign and the Explorer, so the 2 tones make it a lot easier for me.
Now one thing with the relic mode is the icons will not be correct, but I think you will find the numbers is what we all go by if it is a soild signal. I use the + setting on the MXT, but normaly dont run with it more then +1 and up it on any signal I want to check out further. I run it in auto tracking myself, but may try to ground balance and lock as some are saying as it may work better.
Good luck and keep us informed on what you think and any question you may have as we have some great people on this fourm.
Rick
