hi am new the forum and previously owned an idx pro , how long does it take to get used to the mxt and to learn it, i borrowed one for 2 hrs and i am not sure i want one thanks Jim

I thought you sent the IDX Pro in to get repaired Jim. I have both the modded IDX and a MXT. I hunt with the MXT all the time and don't use the IDX much. The MXT is a high gain detector and many people think it is chatty. Whether you want one or not nobody can say but you. Rob

For me, it was quite easy. It's got a very easy learning curve and the more you use it, the more you'll get to know it as with any other machine. Chatty? Guess I don't hear it. I will have to say that I love my MXT and wouldn't trade it for any other machine. Simple, dependable yet can keep up with the big boys! JMHO and HH to all, Nancy

my idx pro has passed away ,leaking batteries was the cause even though they were left in the machine for 2 days.Funreral arrangements have yet to be announced

My wife had a IDX Pro before the MXT and I will say the IDX was a very quiet detector, but the MXT is much more sensitive and will see targets the IDX wont. On thing some say it is a bit cattery which I notice if you set the sensitivity too high, so we can not run it in the plus area unless we want to hear the chatter. I use the Plus on those weak targets. Now we do hear a little falsing at times which is normal, but it is not a repeatable signal.
Like Nancy says it is probably the best Whites detector they have and I know my wife wont too trade it for anything either.

First and foremost,I sent you a PM. I had a MXT and had to sell it due to hard times. A year later i had saved my ducats and bought another detector.Yep another MXT. The slight hum of the threshold is part of the magic of the MXT and helps find wonderful things. Sometimes,due to powerlines or atmostpheric conditions the MXT can be a bit chatty. Just keep on detecting. I love mine........Tom

Please take note of my PM.I think it can be very helpful if you heed what i wrote :thumbup:

I agree with Tom. I like the sound of a light threshold hum in the background and set mine to barely audible. Can usually run full or near full sensitivity with the 6X10 in my soil.

Actually, after i turn on and balance my MXT i really don't notice the slight hum.What i do notice is a break in that hum and glance down at the screen to see what it might be. YES i said a break or pause in the threshold BOWSER no beep just this faint whisper telling me to pay attention to a deep target that is too deep to beep :thumbup:

Groundshaker doesn't have that quite accurate. Depending on how the discrimnation is set, the pause in the hum may be a target that is being discriminated out. Nonetheless, you know that you've passed over a possible target if you decide to investigate further;

For me a break in the threshold means my detector passed over a target I had discriminated out.

Here's what a whisper means to me;
If a target signal is too weak for a VDI number to be determined, an All-Metal audio response (WHISPER) will occur (the threshold will increase and there will be no display indications. The most noticeable all-metal portion of the audio

I am sorry for the misrepresentation. I have been working at a State historical site and looking for 225 year old iron and have trained myself to mark the hits for the team to carefullt dig.

Good on ya! Helping groups like that is great PR for our hobby.

Best detector that money can buy. Yes, it is sensitive and that is what makes it a gold magnet when hunting for nuggets. I like to tell folks about the pro prospector that I came across in Placerites, NV, He was using a Minelab 4000 with a battery pack on his back. To make a long story short, he was digging 1 to 2 foot holes and I was just digging 3 to 6 inch holes. I got 2xs as many nuggets as he did. Sensitive...yes. Noisy...yes. The best darn machine bar none and forget the money. 10 second turn on and go for coins, relics, and gold. I am sure glad that I made the right choice in detectors when I bought a MXT!

THANKS FOR THE REPLIES ,I HAVE SEEN SO MANY POSTS IN FAVOR OF THE MXT I HAVE DECIDED TO GET ONE. THE ONE I USED FOR 2 HOURS FOUND CLAD AND ONE VERY TINY SILVER PEICE THAT MUST HAVE HELD A NECKLACE TOGETHER .THIS TINY OBJECT WAS 5 INCHES IN THE GROUND ON A SOCCER FIELD ,I WAS IMPRESSED FOR SURE.
