MXT Max 15' coil for MXT PRO

Confetrit

Well-known member
I was wondering if any Relic Hunters here use the MXT PRO with the Max 15' coil and if so what are your thoughts on this coil concerning the depth. I currently use the 950 coil on the PRO. I guess what I'm looking for is feedback as to if it would be worth getting the Max coil as far as depth wise. I would certainly appreciate any feedback concerning this matter. Thanks in advance.

Ya I agree the 15 " coil is hugh. I would go with the Whites 12" or a 10 X 12 SEF if I needed a gig coil.

I have never owned the Max 15'' coil but i hve seen and used one on a friends MXT and yes it is massive,it of course needs alot of thought before buying such a coil as often the negatives far outway the plus's,if you solely plan on using it for deep work and nothing else then it could be a good move but if the plan is using it for long periods of time a harness could be seen as a good move.

Will it give you depth over the stock coil, the answer would be yes,by how much not as much as what you would think it would,a bigger coil real advantage is of course finding larger targets at depth but you will loose out possibly on smaller targets,so only you can way the advantages up.

One of my machines that i shoot from the hip but on specific sites when searching for hoards is the DFX but i also use a larger heavier 18'' Detech coil, this is even heavier than the 15'' Max coil, and to get the maximum use out of this combination i have found that i needed to run it in 3Khz to make it owrk, but once again its only really good on large items, but this is is what i am looking for and not single coins,it even mentions this on the coil box that you would be wasting your time really looking for coin size object.

But if you have a specif use and plan on using it alot then buying such a coil could be seen as a wise move, but if you plan on searching in tots lots for small change then it will be a total waste of time and money.

Thanks for the feedback and input. I would primarily be using the 15' Max coil relic hunting and searching larger open areas.

The coil is awesome, coming from a mx5 you will notice appr the same depth on smaller items as compared to the stock coil but will indeed notice an increase in depth on larger items. Surprisingly pinpointing is better than what it would seem with this enormous coil.. Seperation is also better than you would think.

Unfortunately although I loved using it the weight was too much to swing for very long. Not as bad if you can kind of slide it on ground surface but to actually swing it for any length of time becomes painful. I am sure a strap would be helpful but between my headphone cord and my sunray probe the last thing I want is more cords in my way.

I sold mine and still miss it at times...its a very fun coil to use and the depth on items found can be surprising.

Had a 15 inch on my Nautilus IIb years ago and dug buckles at depths that can only be imagined. Arm buster though.

Thanks again for the tips and input. It gives you a chance to weigh all the factors before purchasing. I'm considering the D2 coil or the Super 12' coil. I believe either of these would do what I'm looking for in a coil without breaking my arm.

I have the 15" MXT Max Coil and it is a Beast, You can FORGET all the old stories about big coils loose sensitivity because as big as this coil is it can still see bits/nuggets of lead weighing 0.03 grams that's ZERO POINT ZERO THREE grams which is about half a Grain, Apart from the size of the Brute it is an Awesome Coil, I was messing around Air Testing things today and it can see a 6 inch Aluminum foil Pie tray at well over 5 and a half feet and on bigger Items it will see them well over 6 feet So it should have no problem seeing Items well over 3 or 4 feet in the Ground and In Normal ground it could quite easily hit things at 4 to 5 feet in the prospecting mode, It will chew up and spit out the SEF 18x15 and so will the super 12" / 300mm coil.

But This is one Mega Serious Coil and it will have you digging some HUGE Holes,

Hope this helps,.

Ordered one of these massive coil this morning and should be here by the weekend, albeit its not the MXT version as mine is the 6.59Khz and will be used on my IDX Pro,its a big beastie but after way up the 'use to possible reward ration' on some of my deep pasture sites then it was hit the buy button time.

As the coil is pretty heavy i do use a full GPX type harness for big heavy hitters and also use a 'Hipstick' as well,so although the weight could be seen as daunting it can be swung for long periods of time with ease, would not even attempt to swing it without a harness on as that would just be crazy.

Should be interesting too use if nothing else, but i do have some pasture sites that the finds are out of depth of say a normal stock coils.
