MXT Killer Relic Mode

I was brushing up the MXT video but never paid to much attention to the relic mixed mode, just didnt like the sound, but the two tone ferrous, non ferrous mode caught my ear.In this mode iron produces a grunt ,and non ferrous produces a high tone this is a lot different than the standard relic mode pitch which is a nice crisp tone with a close or narrow sweep speed that gets awesome separation in nails. The area has been pounded by myself and others but produced targets that were missed using the elipse 5.3 coil in relic mode.To get these results switch to relic mode, turn to 0 discrimination, pinpoint switch forward. After running this way for awhile tryed turning disc. to 2 just where iron was eliminated, and pay attention to the VDI when you get a high tone.Note passed the nail board test with flying colors, also this is the standard MXT e series not the pro.I am confident that silver will soon appear in iron infested areas give it a try and give some feed back.Today in a 1885 church camp...........CEDAR

Way to go Cedar. Love those relics. Thanks for posting and HH, Nancy

Now these are the things a newbie to Whites digital machines are what i want to hear and see! Which coil were you using? i have the 950 and 6x10 DD Eclipse. . also some people mention a 6x9 DD, is that actually the same coil? or a aftermarket? a little confused.

Whether you are using a 950 or your DD, if you pass over something, your machine will pick it up. Both are great coils in my opinion. Like I've said before, I like to stick with my DD.

The 950 misses a lot of targets that a DD will be able to find, even shallow targets. Just because the coil is over the target doesn't mean its going to see it. Once I switched to the D2 I am finding quite a few silver dimes(barbers, mercs & rosies) from my small lawn I searched out really thoroughly with the 950. In fact, when I covered it with the 950 I never found silver in my lawn. When I first got the MXT, I had the under misunderstanding that the 950 was the best coil for the MXT, assuming it must be good if it came with it. The 950 was not designed for the MXT, the 6x10 is what the MXT was built around. Aside from that, the 950 is not capable of separating two targets that are close together. Most places I detect have targets nearly touching each other and a concentric coil is very much handicapped.

The 950 works just as its designed. A concentric coil has characteristics just like DD coils have characteristics. If you spend the time and research to get the coil over that special target, you better hope its the right coil, they don't all give the same results. Once you find a good area and you want to find everything you can, you need to use two or three different coils and sweep from several directions to get most, but not all, the targets. Someday you might own another coil that will again produce good targets from this same area that the previous three could not.

Nice finds, Cedar. Congrats.

@dixiedigger57 - Some are talking about the "real" coil size and say 6x9 and at White's it's listed as 6x10. If they're talking about the eclipse 6x9or10 DD they're talking about the same.

To me the 6x10 is the best coil White's made. Lot better than the 10 DD round.
