MXT, is this normal?...

Hi,
I recently purchased an MXT from Kellyco and am generally happy with it. I am having one issue and I'm curious to know if it is normal.
When I swing my coil a little more than normal, or stop it abruptly, it will make a sound like it registered something. I thought that by letting it 'ground balance' that was suppose to eliminate that sort of noise.
Am I wrong in assuming this? Is this normal or should I have my machine checked?
Thanks
Erik

Eric, make sure the lock knob on the shaft is tight, and the coil wire is snug against the detector shaft.
A slight movement in these components can register (metal in motion) as a target. If your ground balance is in lock and is far enough off, you can get 'detection' when there is a slight lift at the end of swing as well. These 'faults' are common to many detectors I believe.
Let us know if tightening things up helps.
Best of luck.

If your coil wire is well secured, and the shaft also, then you have an issue with the coil(the windings could be moving in the coil & that will cause false signals).

Hi,
Thanks for the responses. I checked everything and all is tight and seems to be set up fine. They set it up for me at Kellyco (I live in the vacinity of the store) so I figured it was done properly.
I still have the same issue. I wondered if there might have been something wrong because pumping the mxt as described to manually set ground balance never did anything for me. I thought that I must have missunderstood something about the process.
I guess I'll give them a call tomorrow and see if they have any thoughts.

One other thought, if you're there in Florida. Take the coil cover off and try it. Sometimes sand or salt water can get between the coil cover and the coil, and continue to move around without being seen.
The other possibility that I can think of is loose wiring inside the coil, in which case, Kellyco should resolve it for you.
Good luck!

Stopping Abruptly can cause a flexing and a slight imbalance triggering an audio response, especially noticeable with higher sensitivity settings.
