hiya guys,,have got the urge to buy an mxt,,but i have been told some negatives,,and thought i better ask you guys,,,,first i have never been attracted to larged coils ,,so will be asking the supplier to fit another one before delivery,,so whats the best whites coil for small silver and gold with good penetration,,is the 9x14 eclips or the 950 as good as each other or is there a better choice,,,,also was told that the machine was noisy,,,is this correct??? thanks guys,,rgds comcat :ukflag:

Noisy, Not really, I personally like a little noise, but it is quiet under most conditions. The 9.5 is a great coil and has great reports on this site. The 5.3 is my favorite. This machine is a great turn and go machine and finds the smallest items. I am constantly amazed! In my opinion, you cannot possibility go wrong with the purchase of this fine machine. Just read the postings here. Whatevre you purchase good success in the hunt. Marty

I couldn't have said it better than EasySwing. HH, Nancy

I agree with the 5.3 coil. It has been on my machines 99% of the time for 5 years. This coil is great in trash and gets really good depth for a small coil. As far as the noise--- really depends on how hot you want to run it. I got used to it being a little noisy. This is a really good machine. Although I am looking at getting a V3i, I will not give up the MXT. I think dollar for dollar for what it does it will be a hard one to beat. Oh yeah. It is excellent at pin-pointing and as far as swing speed, you won't find a michine as forgiving as the MXT. All of these things make the MXT one great machine. Good luck.

I've had an MXT since about two weeks after they came out. and i have dug .22 cal. bilits at 10+ inches (just the lead heads) consistently. *-10 is not a problem for the MXT+ 5.3"coil+ +3 on the gain= Deep finds HH and keep it in da dirt!:detecting:

I know you said that you don't like big coils---but, the 10dd2 will get get you better depth--generally and it will help cut down on the "noise" and it weighs less than the 6x10. I have used nothing but this coil since it came out and have super results-----

Howdy,
I have only had mine about a year now, and it is my First detector.

I researched for a few months while I saved money to buy a detector. And from my research, I came up with the MXT.
I read the owners manual, (and its not that big), and I watched the Video. in one day.
Then I was out hunting, it definitely did turn on and go, I even found a handful of 1940's era pennies.
then after researching more, I got the 6x10 DD coil, and I like it alot.
Then I got the book titled" The MXT EDGE" by jeff Foster, and thats when I realized, my MXT has so much more potential than what I had known.
I think its cool , that a newb to detecting , can buy a machine, and turn it on and go, and its basically simple to operate, then come to find out later, that that same machine can do some pretty awesome things.
I "never " had any regrets on my purchase of the MXT, if anything, I think "WOW ! I am soo glad I chose the MXT"

As far as hours in the field, I dont have many.
But, last year, I found a 1901 Barber Dime, and I have never actually seen one before, how cool is that ?

If you choose the MXT, with all of its availiable coils, you will not be dissappointed. And, I'm not too computer literate.

Oh, noise. You can turn down the threshold to where theres no noise, but if you want to gain some depth, its good to hear a slight threshold hum.
Basically, thats up to you.
The MXT has alot of options. Its an amazing machine really.
Good luck in your choice.

is the mxt pro worth the extra $$$ i am in the same boat as the comcat looking to buy an mxt. a good used mxt tracker goes for around 400 and a used pro for around 600-650 is it worth the exta 200. i mainly hunt parks and schools and some private properties, but i also prospect with 3-4 times a year

The only advantages of the Pro are the 7 tones in C&J mode, the back light and the ground grab. If these enhancements are worth $200 or so to you, then the difference is worth it. Other wise they are the same detector.
