MXT in freshwater?

goob

New member
Has anyone tried using an MXT while wading or just along dry sand at the fake beach at a local park? What about a saltwater beach? How does it perform in dry sand? Does the autotrack work well in the freshwater enovironment?

Just throwing those out there. I am trying to find an MXT, so I want to know what it is capable of.

Thanks for any help!
Gabe

Hello Gabe,
I have used mine in fresh water streams and the edges of lakes with no problem at all. I do not use the TRAC setting at all. I use 'Ground' for all hunting except the beach. At the beach I use the 'Salt' setting for both dry and wet sand. It works well in the dry sand and I run at +3 (wide open) and around +1 or +2 whatever works best without falsing. Falsing is when you hit the sand during your swing and get a loud signal and nothing is really there, you just hit the sand. After almost 2 years of use, I have found that I use the 5.3 coil in trashy areas and the 10"DD at the beach and relic hunting. Hope this helps.

If you're using the mxt in the water be sure not to lift the coil above the control-box, as the stem is a tube and will fill with water that can rinse the control-box.

ok, I see. I have heard the 6x10 is really good too. Do you have any experience with it?

Hello Gabe,
I have used it but I sold mine as I am not a fan of that coil. I found that the 5.3 got the same depth and worked well in trashy areas. If I need more ground coverage I use the 10"DD which is much deeper than the 6 x 10. JMHO
