MXT.....How Deep Are You Finding Coins

New member
I'm curious of how deep this detector is getting coins....Thanks for sharing.....HH......God Bless.......Dan

Hi boxofchocolates.
One of the deepest coins I have picked up is a sixpence, size 3/qrt inch (20mm) at 9 inches down on C&J mode. I had the 6x4 DD coil on, the signal was weak, can't remember the VDI reading now though.
I have picked up coins with a faint signal and no VDI reading down at 8 - 9 inches.

Regards,

my deepest one was a coin the size of a dime at 7 inches using the stock coil, clear signal on relic mode

5 to 8 inches with the stock coil in coin and jewelry mode

With the 6x10 coil, disc.at 2 to 2-1/2 and sens +1 to max, I've recovered pennies, dimes and quarters to around 7 to 8". Some nickels to 7". Dollar coins to 8". These are my "deepest ever " coin finds to date but I typically find most coins in the 6" and under range. Hope that helps.

It's good to see people quoting realistic depths on the forum.I often feel sorry for beginners to the hobby who buy detectors on the strength of claimed depths that they have read about on forums.I have owned many detectors over the years and the depths quoted here are about the average depths that most detectors will find coins at with a nice positive signal. It's true that people will find coins deeper than this in certain conditions....i have myself.....but most will come out from the kind of depths discussed here. The thing with the MXT is that it has a fast response time as well as decent depth which makes it one of the top machines today.I'd rarther have a machine that went down to a maximum of 10" on a coin and was good in the trash rarther than one that could pull a coin from 14" and be useless when the going got tough.

I'm sure you know depth will greatly vary do to location, settings, coils, mineralization and skill of the user if you are trying to compare detectors. In some areas of the country, 6 inches is fantastic while others will get 12 inches on a regular basis.

i havent used the stock coil but with 6x10 DD 6 to 8 inches for the deepest coins. not to say it wont find deeper, but i havent had the mxt very long..its very hard to force myself to use the xlt anymore. the mxt is a great detector!

I know what you mean, the kind of talk of finding dimes and rings at 1ft deep :nono:

the MXT is really a great detector, I see some years of joy to come

Thanks to all for info.hh......God Bless......Dan

Yea, Some of the claimed depths need to be scrutinized.
My MXT is good but not THAT good and neither are the other detectors out there
that are supposed to be getting these extrodinary depths, in my opinion.

Before I went out today, I did some air tests on my 5.3 coil.
Quarters dimes and nickels ranged right arounf 4 to 5 1/2 inches but when I went out and
used the 5.3 on a site today I dug a pull tab from 7 inches. Now how does one explain that?
I know it was in the 7 in range because my digging knife blade is six inches, the legal
limit, and the pull tab was past that! So what does that tell you about air tests? Don't
relie on them.

The soil was damp; that and the aura/ oxidiation around the metal probably had a lot to
do with the depth reading. Beyond that I don't think my 5.3 is going to pick up anything
past 6 to 7 inches unless its a large object.

My hunting partner was useing the Ace 250 and put on the 4.5 coil because of all the trash.
I used it briefly and was getting target readings from 4 to 5 and just alittle beyond depending on the size.

HOWEVER one target I dug just wasn't there; it was a false reading. The sensitivity was too far up
and there was some mineralization. The Ace 250 is a preset.
