MXT HEADPHONES

I use them all the time.. Had to get used to them at first, they are a tighter fit and bothered my ears at first, but after adjusting them they are better...
They blow away the phones that came with my MXT everything is better but turn them down because the hits are sharp until you get used to them.
I love them the sounds are clear and I can usually tell between the trash and the good stuff.

You might want to check into the Killer Bees headphones. They run about $60-$65 from most online retailers that carry them. I've gotten free headphones with most every detector I've ever bought but I always want to use the Killer Bees that I bought seperately. I think they're that good. Give Brian at Southern Treasures a call. He sells and highly recommends them. He used to work for the company that makes them and can help you understand why they work well as MD'ing phones and why they are used by a lot of people.

I think you will find that most of the top quality headphones made for detectors have the stereo mono switch so they can be used with any detector. There is one set I know will work with any detector and it dont have the switch and those are the Troy Pros, plus they have a 12 foot cord that is coiled up so the extra cable is not in your way. If you dont mind the stereo switch than the SunRay Pro are a very nice set of headphones for the MXT I highly recomend, plus they are the sponsors of this MXT fourm, so check them out.

How long have you had your MXT? Do you think you will have it forever? A stereo switch allows you to use the headphones with any detector you may ever get. May save getting another headphone when you have a perfectly good set already.
Of course it is always good to have a spare.
The volume limiter switch is good too. It saves having your ears blasted into the next county on a strong hit or while pinpointing. The MXT does not have a volume control so get a headphone that does have one.
The limiter or clipper circuit is great. Check with another member of your treasure hunting club or go to a dealer and try one of each and you'll see what I mean.
If you have already listened to too much loud rock music, forget it. You'll need all the volume you can get. If you hearing is still good, lack of a limiter circuit will take care of that.
Hard to do with mail order but also try to get a good fit. I use Detector Pros and they have both of the switches and large ear cups. Fit comfortably over my ears. I can wear them all day and still feel good. Other ones I had caused pressure on the top or bottom of the ear and I felt sore after an hour or so.
Pay particular attention if you wear glasses. If they press too hard on your ear where the glasses fit that also feels bad.

Jeff,
Do yourself a favor and check out the Koss QZ-99 headphones. They are very high quality, have an 8 foot coiled cord, and have a lifetime warranty. Yes, they have a mono/stereo switch, but that just makes them compatible with any detector you might decide on in the future. Compare their specs with any high-dollar headphone and I think you'll settle on the QZ's.
