MXT Ground B.

Hi All MXT users, When hunting with the MXT, if you can,t find a clean spot to GB, is it better to turn the MXT off and put in LOCK and then turn it back on in LOCK at 50 or is it better to let it TRACK? I frond a old place that has nails and iron parts so bad that even in pinpoint you can,t find a clean spot to balance. I did use the little 4x6 dd coil and frond to Murks and 2 Wheat's. I if i let it TRACK it tracks to the targets. Thanks for any help. Flintstone

If you can't find a clean place to GB, put it in track and walk around 20 or 30 feet and try to find a clean place to GB before you start hunting.
If the trash is that bad, it won't matter if it's balanced or not. You won't get any depth anyway from the masking. Just pick a spot, lock it, and clean it out.

If you can,t find a clean spot and you lock it, dose it knot out what ever you lock over? I think that is what i want to say.

Until you remove all the surface trash it really doesn't matter what you do.
It may just be one of those places that is impossible to work with a detector. You may need a screen instead.

The MXT will only track to the target when making multiple passes over it. In pin point mode and I think I read when using the ground grab, it stops the tracking. So if you hit a target and pull your trigger, it will stoping tracking.

I agree that it is a mute point to GB in such extreme trash. Lower the gain so it is tolerable, likely your ears are starting to hurt, and begin the slow process of cleaning out the trash with the loudest most annoying targets first. Once you have an area 4'x4' cleaned out you can get your accurate GB. I'm not suggesting that though. You would have to remove 'all metal' from the ground and that is ridiculous. Just remove everything that shows +1 and higher or even +12 and higher is still pretty thorough. Set disc to still see +10 and use your judgement on the lower signals. If the trash is really extreme, set disc around +40 and clean out the higher signals then go back for the lower signals afterwards.
I've surprised myself with the good results of removing top layer trash and finding old goodies below. You will be hunting virgin ground when you get the trash out of the way. That's a rare privilege these days so the trouble is most likely worth it if you are in a good area.

Thanks all, This was a old Blacksmith shop, and has never been hunted. I was told that it was the only one around for miles, and on Sat.night was a square dance hall. Alot of drinking and gambling.
