MXT good alternative for "arthritic hunter"?

As I have posted before, I have some issues with arthritis. My favorite machine ever was a Spectrum that I bought in '94(used). It had the large control box, and was a little tiresome to operate. So I sold it and went to a Tesoro, which I really have done well with. But, I missed the TID feature, and wanted another White's. I was surprised at how well the MXT is balanced, so I don't think the weight is going to be a big factor. I've decided to use the MXT on "good" days, and the Silver uMax on "aching" days. I do think that balance is at least as important as weight. Lots of good posts on here about the MXT.

I have 3 Tesoros, a Prizm and an MXT. Don't haved arthritis, but find the MXT heavy enough to be a burden after several hours. That's the one thing I don't like about it. It is HEAVY! for a detector.

That concerns me a little, but I am going to give it a try. I usually hunt slow and thorough, gridding off small areas. I know some folks swing like they are fighting fire. At the end of the day, I usually have about as much stuff as the fast hunters, even though I covered less square-footage. Thanks for the post.

I feel for you my friend, doing what you like and having pain sorta takes away some of the pleasure..Good Luck !!

Also, be aware that the MXT can be had as a factory hipmount from SOME dealers...I bought one for my wife. PM me if you have interest.

easy to install and the only weight you have on arms is coil, and a new rod configuration, that comes with the kit..I used one on a wide body spectrum.

Thanks for that info, Elton. My problem may be solved! I'm waiting for my new MXT, and have been for a while. The dealer has been sick, and I have been patient. Looking forward to geting it, though.

Other than the weight, I think you will really like the MXT. If you hunt trashy areas often, pick up a 4X6 "shooter" coil for it when you get the chance. The 6X10 DD has better separation in trashy areas than the 9.5" standard, also. As to the weight, I'm thinking about trying a "swingy thingy" or something similar.

I go to a Rheumatologist, but haven't been in a while. Went out detecting for a while today, and sounded like the Tin Man(from wizzard of oz) walking toward the field, popping and cracking. Once I hunted awhile, my joints "freed up" and all was well.

You might try this. I was having back, shoulder and neck pains (going back 30 years) along with carpal tunnel. I quite useing a pillow and they all went away over about 6 months. Pinched nerves from a using a thick pillow. Now I use a thin pad.

I have Degenerative Disc in my neck(part of the arthritis thing). Thanks. I feel pretty good after getting up and moving around a bit. Will keep that tip in mind!!
