MXT for gold

Flintstone

Well-known member
Hi All, I know the MXT is good for gold, but has anyone used the D2 coil from Whites for small gold? I know the 6x10 is good it is a dd coil and the D2 is dd, so i was just thinking the D2 would cover more ground, or about the same. Monty on MXT forum likes the 5.3 to get in around rocks. What do you pros think. Will this work? Thanks Dean

Test it with shotgun pellets or small fishing weights if you don't have small nuggets, the electromagnetic conductivity is similar.
You will get superior performance on larger gold most definitely with the D2 and you will be surprised how small the gold you will find with it.

Hi pennyfinder, I read on another forum that the D2 was picking up minni balls at 12" if it can do that then it will get gold at about the same. I tryed a small nugget about 1/2 the size of a ninni ball, and it picked i up at about 8" that is in the house. Out in the field who knows. To cold to go out at 20 out side that is why i am coming to Arizoia, to get warm and detect. Thanks for the come back, hope to see you out there. Flintstone YAB-DAB-DO

Hopefully my friend will go out there with me this yr. he will use a Tejon I have an xt 70 The date of the Arizona Outback outting at Rich Hill Will determine my vacation tried to log on there it said not registered Free Seminar and Chris is a nice guy burried a gold nugget and let me hear it with the 70 makes a real mellow sound HH Maybe I'll see you all out there!!!! Gary

Just remember for small gold detection, listen for the soft sounding, faint signals and you'll dig small gold. They sometimes don't register on the VDI.

I like the 6 x 10, easy pinpointing, rejects bad ground better, easy to get around rocks and brush. I just wish the MXT had easier to use knob controls as I can never remember where to set them for which mode I am in so usually just set them at the presets and cross my fingers. This is a major problem when a guy owns 6 detectors and is over 50 years old.
Sure hope its not just me? Ps, I tried the 12 inch Whites spider coil on my MXT and it was too noisy so I dumped it, went back to the 6 x 10.

OK guy, when hunting for gold in prospecting mode, where should the SAT be set high or low? Should the round be locked or in track? If anyone has a good set up and not mind letting me know i would really appreciate it. Thanks Flintstone

hea, guys theres a new top dog in town.its the SEF. 6X8 BUTTERFLY D.D. COIL,after buying this bad dog i sold the 6x10 d.d.coil----its that good:inlove:

I just received a Mxt with a 8x6 sef, I haven't used it in the field yet, but on test nuggets I have it's an impressive coil and should do quite well. Thanks for the report.

Hey Flintstone, the SAT is something you must determine where to set in the ground conditions that you are hunting. You must experiment and watch the meter for the ground vdi value. Remember when hunting nuggets you want the gold to have the most distinctive sound , not necessarily the loudest. Take a couple of test nuggets of different sizes put them in a 2x2" velcro and use them to listen to in the ground your are hunting. Don't be afraid to experiment.
Good luck and good hunting.

I am now using the sat set on the maximum setting. At this setting the difference between a hot rock and a target is really defined clearly by the noise. The current area I'm detecting is carpeted in hot rocks with the gold sitting on them or just below them. I've been using the sat on maximum and the gain on +3. The hot rocks are a constant chatter at this setting but they are broad sounds and not always repeatable. The solid target sound is much easier to differentiate with the sat on maximum too I listen for the zip noise.

I've been getting heaps of trash and some deep stuff too. (I'm digging everything even when I know its iron.) Got my first gold nugget a month ago and two more last weekend so the settings are giving me some results. I'm detecting on sound alone and its working.

Dicko..
