MXT finds Silver

Went up to the Brownwood Texas area to visit and took along the MXT. I was able to hunt an area where some old buildings were knocked down to make way for progress! I hunted for a few minutes anticipating the approaching storm to hit at any time. I got a nice VDI reading that indicated a dime at about 5 inches. The ground was as hard as a rock but I managed to carefully dig down to the target and it was a nice 1887S seated liberty dime. The first for me. Now this was fun! A drop or two of rain fell so I went back swinging the MXT. A few minutes later, a nice quarter signal at about an inch. Up poped a 1951 silver quarter. Now this is beginning to look good... A few minutes later up popped a 1943 steel penny. As soon as I recovered the penny the rain begin to fall and thus ended my 30 minute hunt. I found the usual clad and stuff but I was really happy for the dime. I put the the MXT in as a parting thought thinking that I would not have time to hunt. Glad I did and I can't wait to see what other old coins wait to see daylight again. Tony

This is the oldest one I've found by quite a few years. I usually just get clad and not old coins so I was pleased to get this one. Thanks, Tony

I was doing a jig :wiggle: and I'll do my best to show you next time we hunt. I almost didn't take a detector :whites: along but I'm glad I did. After all those hunts you, me , and skillet went on, you two guys are not there when I snagged this one :ranting:. Anyway, look forward to hunting with you, maybe this weekend. Here is a pic of the quarter and penny. Talk with you later, TonyTX

But I really like those seated ladies. Congrats on a good un" HH Randy

Ummmm, love to see the old silvers. I've got video on my camera, so be practicing the "Old Silver Dance" so I can record it for posterity!! I'll be ready for a hunt on Sat., if you get some free time. Skillet's going bow-fishing down at Calavaras. Since you have the nose for the old silver now, you pick the spot.

Digger, Thanks... This is the first one I've found. I was excited that it wasn't a Rosie this time but I'm glad for those too! HH TonyTX

I hope to get back but it will not be the same next time because of construction. I believe it is supposed to be some kind of skate board rink or what ever they are called, g. The penny had a lower VDI. Zincs run around 60 (or low 60's) on my mxt while the older penny will read from 74 to 77. I don't recall exactly what the reading was for the 43 steel penny because there was much trash there. It was just a good strong signal so I dug it and it was shallow. I was happy to get it. I think you are right though, probably a lot of good stuff left. Thanks, TonyTX :)

Hey guys, there are several of us in San Antonio that check the boards here. Give a shout if ya'll want to do some detecting together. We have mainly been hitting the city parks here since they brought back the permit system. We have been doing well on scoring silver in the parks.

Hello Rich... Sounds good to me. Sounds like you have been doing pretty good there in the big city! Maybe we can manage to put together a Saturday hunt sometime. Drop me a private email and let's see what we may be able to work out. Thanks again, TonyTX

If you get a few minutes, could you E-mail me ( MonteVB@comcast.net ) and enlighten me on the permit system that they have down there?

None here in the Portland (OR) metro area, but some towns up this way require a permit, and it might just be a matter of time. Could be helpful to have some good ideas to suggest to them (if that happens to come up).

Thanks,

Monte
