MXT Finds Great Pyramids

I had the opportunity to spend a few days checking out some old ghost towns with friends from all over the West. Had a great time and as always, a learning experience for me to hunt the Ghost Towns as I've spend most of my detecting time hunting the yards of old homes and occasionally poking around on the ski slopes.

I have to say there is a lot of trash to sort thru; bullets, cartridge casings, more bullets and cartridge casings, and of course rusty tin, rusty iron and the ever present pull tabs. I did manage a few keepers running with my recently acquired MXT AP and the 5.3 eclipse coil. The 'buckle' is of Masonic heritage and appears to be brass. On the front it says, SUPREME PYRAMID - ANCIENT EGYPTIAN ORDER OF - SCIOTS. There are the pyramids, palm or date trees, the man onthe camel and the emblem of the Sciots. The back appears to be plain, but does have a heavy layer of dirt I was hesitant to take any brush to since the front seems to have a few spots that have been painted. I rinsed off the front and gently brushed away loose dirt with a soft toothbrush and that's about it.

I like finding items like this and was very pleased with the MXT. It found a LOT of could've been targets in amongst the trash. While running the MXT, i was hunting in relic mode, iron ID, sensitivity between 7 and +1 depending on the trash density.

There is a more info on the Masonic organization at Sciots.org.

Big thanks to Monte and the rest of the crew. I had a great time.

Great find. I like those kind of finds myself. Have fun with the MXT, it's a great detector

Using any of the MXT family of machines, what have YOU found to be the most effective (not necessarily the deepest) coil to use when hunting trashy house lots/school YARDS/parks? Also what settings on the multiple tone machines?

Hi Frank,

I don't believe that I have enough hunting time with my MXT and the 5.3 to give anything but positive initial impressions. As for comparisons, I haven't used any smaller sized coils on the MXT to compare it too I purchased the 5.3 Eclipse specifically for this trip based upon what I've been able to glean from posts here on the MXT forum going back several years. Lots of good reports on both the 5.3 eclipse and the 8x6 SEF.

Fantastic find! I love old things like that and so many times would much rather have something like that than an old silver dime. You're sure clearing that trash away. Glad to see you dispose of it properly instead of leaving it. Too many have left their garbage next to a dug spot and that's a big NO NO! Thanks for sharing with us!

It was a LOT of junk. Takes a lot of patience to go through, but there are good targets in amongst all of that trash.

I empty my trash pouch back at the truck as necessary and it all comes home for closer inspection before it goes in my trash.

I hate those "really good signals" and then they're junk. As for our "junk" items that are interesting, or just plain old, we keep them in a "junk jar". It's interesting to go back and see all the unique items that we've found throughout the years. I couldn't count how many pea shooters :smoke: Larry has found. All the little toy cars go into a bag and they're donated or given away.
