I found a 1929 penny at about 9 inches, but most of the finds around here are 4" to 6'' When I get a strong signal that says it is a penny at 10" or deeper, it has always been a pop can.

i took an indian head penny from 8 inches. depth readings on mine show about an inch deeper than actual, but that may be 'cause i don't scrub my coil on the ground. the old zinc canning jar lids will show up as a zinc cent at one inch if the lid is a foot or more deep. dug one of them from a foot and a half hole but there was no jar of coins screwed to it.

I bought a 4.5 X 7 EXcelerator, received it Monday took it out for a spin. pulled a 1963 silver quarter out of a park at 12'' thats the deepest I have detected with my MXT. Also found 2 dimes at about 9'' and a thin gold necklace at 5'', great day for me. Great little coil :detecting:

You must have had the sensitivity at full throttle?
I was useing the 6x10DD at the Park Sunday but never
found anyting that deep.

What kind of signal were you getting for the quarters and the two dimes?

RR

The quarter was a real faint bleep, curiosity got the best of me so I dug it,it was real close to 12". I did not measure the hole but it was deep. The dimes had the same faint bleeps, was hoping for another quarter, but the two dimes were at 8'' in the same hole about 3" apart. the necklace had a strong signal at 5" I'm going to listen for faint signals alot more. I like the 4.5X7 coil, the ground was wet and had about 2" of wood chips on top. but the ground was not trashy
