This evening I got home from work tired as usually and not wanting to do anything. When me neighbor called and said his brother-n-law had lost his keys.:surrender: I thought sounds like a challenge to me especially in the dark,so I grabbed my MD with my super 12 coil and off we went. When we arrived there at his house he told me the story of how he was brush-hogging his pasture with his tractor and his keys that he used to start it had fell out of his ignition somewhere out here in this pasture and he had only made a couple of passes. I asked why didn't it die when they fell out then he showed me the tractor that look like it was from the dust bowel or something (really old) he said you can put any key in it to start it and they must have fell out. The keys had his house, barn, truck, car and shop keys on them. He had been looking for 3 days every evening and had walked it 4 or 5 times looking with a rake. He showed me where he started brush-hogging. I fired up MD in a pasture I new there wouldn't be much trash,so beings it was dark all I really had to do was listen for a good solid hit. We walked about 30 ft and and my little bad boy sounded off. I said well there defiantly something here pulled the depth finder and I could tell it wasn't deep, they shined there flash lights down at my coil and I reached into the tall cut grass and BINGO:jump: I pulled out his keys. He was speechless:yikes: and I was the man.:beers: It was awesome he told me if I ever needed anything to give him a holler and he would loan or help me anyway he could. :buds:

Thats pretty cool. HH Dennis in Idaho

there's nothing more satisfying for me than being able to return an item given up for lost by the owner. I don't know what you do if people offer rewards but I always tell them I'd rather have another hunt site and ask if they know of any old homes I could hunt around. Lost count of the good sites I've gotten from returning lost items. Thanks for putting our hobby in such a good light.

Great story Rob

What a wonderful story and I love the ending! to you! The farmer might know of old homesteads that were in fields, neighbors fields, etc. One good deed always brings back ten fold. I would never think of taking any reward money. Like Phil stated, I too would much rather have an old site to hunt. Also bettering the reputation of all metal detectorists (my new word). Thanks! Nancy

Great job well done Jake, that's what detecting is all about, and what gives detector's a good name. He will tell everybody he sees the key story. And that will open doors as far as hunting on his land and his neighbors land. thanks from all of us. :clapping:

That was a good deed that you did.
Helps all of us in this hobby.
He mentioned that he would help you somehow,
He may be able to suggest or help you find new detecting locations .:detecting:

A great story...I had a similar experience a few Christmas' ago when my brother-in-law had given my 10-year old nephew a brand new quad for Christmas. A small metal "jet" had backed-out and fell into the lawn, which is on a massive ranch and my nephew was about to go into a sh-t-coniption because he couldn't get this thing started or ride it. My brother-in-law told him he would order the part, but it could take several weeks. I grabbed my MXT and found the part in about 5-minutes....feels good to be the hero once in a while!
