MXT differences

Anordstr

New member
I'll be buying an MXT soon, and was wondering what the main differences were between the regular and the were. Also, What is a good coil for coin shooting?

Thanks!

I guess you're asking about the MXT and the MXT 300? Only difference is that the MXT 300 has powder coat paint and a large 12" coil. That's the only difference between the two machines. Coin shooter? What type of coin shooting? Deep? Surface? Playgrounds?

HH, Nancy

Hmm. That's not much of a difference lol. I want to find the old stuff. Right now I'm using a prism, and i feel Like I'm missing a lot of the good stuff. I collect coins, and that's mainly why I got into detecting a few years ago, but the prism isn't cutting it for me.

If coins (and jewelry) is all you're pretty much interested in searching for you might want to check out the reviews on this forum for the M6. It runs cheaper than the MXT. It has a multi-tone feature that the MXT doesn't and from the reviews, works great. Only negative is it doesn't have prospecting mode but no loss if you're never going to need it. Personally, I'm planning on making it the next detector I pick up when I can.

I had a cheaper detector to start off with that did a great job in the parks for modern coins that wasn't very deep but after awhile I wanted to expand my searches for older coins and relics which was undoubtedly to deep for the machine I was using.
After awhile I decided on the m6 or mxt and started doing research on these 2 fine whites detectors and found both are highly respectable units and I really haven't seen any bad comments from either lets face it when a detector is several years old and still favorites among the hobby there's not a lot more to be said.
I went with the mxt and I have no regrets what so ever but with any new detector you got a learning curve of what it's telling you for even turn on and go machines but the mxt is simple to setup and start detecting and from all I've read it will hang with the best of them no matter what brand.
I don't know that I will ever go anywhere to prospect for gold I'd like to someday but just not in the cards right now but for a hundred dollars extra I paid I am ready if the chance ever does come not to mention even now with the flip of the switch I can analyze more info on a target or see how the ground is in the area I'm hunting so yes I'm happy with my mxt it's a fun machine to use.
Maybe there's a dealer in your area that would let you try one and see if you like it before you buy.
As for coils I still only have the stock 950 and admit it is a challenge in trashy areas but intend on getting another soon I'm kinda leaning toward the 6 x 10 DD as my main coil then maybe the 5.3 for really trashy spots..

In the difference the value will be found in the price of a larger coil.I purchased the mxt300 knowing had I went with the mxt (9.5 coil) sooner or later I would end up purchasing other coils. And if bigger meant deeper targets that's what I was after. However I now have the 4x6,5.3,6x10 and have not been displeased with any of them.Figure the 9.5 would perform the same. All in all the mxt is a jewel in the crown of American made detectors.:whites::usaflag:
249.95 12'' coil
149.95 9.5'' coil
Those are prices from a authorized dealer in Tulsa,OK. I figure the prices are the same across the board,so that would account for the 100.00 difference in the mxt300 vs.mxt

You mention coils for coin shooting - here's my take
9.5 good in light trash, very good depth
6X10 Separates better than the 9.5 in moderate trash, good depth My most used coil
5.3 Very good in heavier trash, surprisingly good depth for its size.
4X6 Surgical in really heavy trash, at the cost of ground coverage and some depth, but very useful in the right conditions. Impressive in how one can nose out goodies from heavy trash with a bit of practice. Not the coil for pulling old coins at depth.
This is all my opinion of course, but I have and do use all 4 of these coils.

The Mxt is a good detector, for me its the best, I serves all my needs, but if I wasn't going to use it for gold or relics and was just going to shoot coins I might have went with a different
type of detector, talk to a white dealers read the forums, k.kellco has some good people also, you will get a lot of good info. from this forum, that being said it is a good detector lots of coils
for it, and its been around for a while. Good luck,

As Nancy stated, the only difference is the powder coating of the MXT 300 and the fact that it comes equipped with a 12" coil instead of a 950.

I'd suggest the 6
