mxt depth

2 Much Trash

Well-known member
I don't hear or read much about the mxt's depth. Any stories out there about deep finds with the MXT?
Thanks, Bill

Hi Bill, I've found coin size targets at 8" deep in our soil. If they're any deeper, I usually get wore out digging them. I've found items a foot deep in the sandy beaches. The MXT is a killer at depth. HH, Nancy

Deepest coin was an Indian Head at 11". I have dug bullets and other relics well over a foot down. Soil mineralization will dictate depth more than anything else,

Hello,
Found a US belt plate that was on it's edge at 10" and an old iron lock with a brass keyhole cover at 12'. Now the reason I mentioned these two finds are because they taught me a lot about the MXT depth. The US belt plate was on it's edge at 10", but it rang out like it was on top of the ground. It air tested at 21 inches. Now that would be deep. The iron lock with the brass keyhole cover gave me a good and bad signal in the same hole. It was so clear that I had to dig it. I had a small digger and my buddy had to finish digging it for me. He couldn't believe the signal I was getting and it was at 12 inches. I was in coin/jewelry mode for both finds and using the 10"DD. I had the gain wide open ( +3 ) for the buckle and on +1 for the lock. I typically run the gain as high as the conditions allow. In real trashy areas I sometimes have to bump the gain down to 6 or 7, and sometimes use the 5.3 coil. I don't think much about depth anymore, I just run the gain as high as conditions allow and feel confident that if somethings there, I'll find it if anyone does. Hope this helps. HH John

i dont think about depth alot..the mxt will find whats in the ground. i have found alot of coins 8in plus and it hits hard on silver. last month i did find a silver 3 cent coin in my yard at over 9in deep, and that coin is as thin as aluminum can and smaller than a dime. i love the mxt..i just upgraded to the mxt pro!

I'd say a dime all day at 10" more if everything is just right, I usually use the D2 coil when looking for the deep stuff.
