I'm sure this topic has been beaten to death but i just recently purchased a new MXT about 2 week's ago.This past Sunday the mxt went on it's 1st maiden voyage cw relic hunting which is my passion.It came with the 'super 12 'coil on it and while i was detecting bullet's/button's at appox 7-9 inches in this Virginia 'hot soil',i'm pretty sure i missed a few relics also.My question to the mxt expert's are if you were going to relic hunt in hot soil what would be your coil of choice?I'm thinking about buying a 10x12sef coil, whites 10'dd, or the 6x9 dd,...keep in mind i'm 90% of the time in the wood's an kinda thick.Thxs in advance for any/all replies.

MXT COIL'S

I use the white's D2 DD as it weighs only 17 oz and great depth and seperation.
IMHO the 8x14 weighs a ton and will wear out your arm in a hurry.
I tried the 10x12 sef and put my D2 back on and sold the sef coil.
I do prefer in trashier areas my 6x8 sef DD I still get 8" depth and it is superior to the 6x10 DD whites has to offer.

Cann't speak for the SEF ones, but had/have different coils for the MXT.
The Eclipse Deepscan DD 1400 is a little heavy to me. It is deep, yes, but the weight..., and thanks to the closed design it is very easy to handle in the fields, like Dan mentioned.
But this is also for the Eclipse DD (6x10), which in my opinion is the best coil. Not to small or to big, separates targets nearby very well, very sensitive to small objets,deep and pinpointing is dead on like the 9.5 concentric will do. It's the favorite all day hunting coil on the MXT here.
The Super 12 is good in areas where is low mineralization and very low trash. Otherwise you'll dig a lot of bad stuff. When huntig a soccer field and digging 20+ bottlecaps in less than 15 mins, I grabbed my stuff and headed home...
The 10" DD (round) is as good as the Eclipse DD (6x10), but due to the open design I won't use this for stubble fields or in the woods. It's pinpointing, compared to the 6x10, is really awful.
What is in the arsenal are the 9.5 stock coil, the 10" DD and the 6x10 Eclipse....and the best finds to me, using the MXT, were made with the 6x10 Eclipse mounted.

I have a 12x10 sef ,and my experience was that it does ok with very little dry sand and soil mix. but so does the 12" coil. I also have a 6x10dd and it is very very good coil ,handles not only sand,soil and dry sand on the pacific ocean sand but it is a all around coil ,and alot of people leave it on most of the time because it does alot. I have a 5.3 coil like a lot of people and it is a very good coil for soil but small. I don't have a d2 but I'm sure it does great. The choice is your's ,and not everybody else but I hope mine and everybody else help.
