MXT coils

I just acquired a MXT and if I decide to keep it what coils should I purchase? It has the 9.5 coil and I would want a small coil for trashy areas and a deep large coil. Thanks.

Check the post at the top of the forum. It lists them all. HH Dennis in Idaho

Speedy , You'll be wanting the 4x6 DD or shooter coil for target separation in moderate to heavy trash. For depth I've been hearing good

stuff about the D-2 coil . I'm not a real big fan yet of my 12" super coil -- though I've just had it a year or so . Any MXT user should

seriously consider having the 6x10 DD coil as an all purpose coil , that has decent trash separation , and is less affected by bad

ground minerals than say the stock 950 coil, While not as specialized as the 4x6 ,the 6x10 performs well in nearly every scenario.

Happy hunting ! Argentium.

It depends on your ground and your preference. For instance for a small coil I prefer the 6" Excelerator. For my larger coil I use the 10" Excelerator. Guys who prospect use other coils. Use the search function to check out the posts that have been made. All the coils have been discussed in detail. Rob

6 X 10 DD is a must...........

You will get a lot of opinions here so here mine. If you want a small coil that gets better depth than the 4x6 check out the 4.5x7 DD or 6" DD Excelerators coils. Next check out the White's 6x10 DD coil which is probably the most versitile coil around. Then get a 10" DD coil either from White's or Kellyco. I just got the 10" DD Excelerator and I am loving it for its ground coverage and depth. Check out back posts on this forum because all the coils I have mentioned have been covered at least once or twice. Let us know what you decide on and welcome to the world of MXT users. if it's very trashy the 5" Excelerator DD is by far the top performer I've ever used. better than the 6

Hi there,

I've been using the 15 x 18 SEF Butterfly coil on my local gold field. No gold yet but I've turned up a couple of 0.2 gram split shot sinkers which I thought was amazing. I'm getting the extra depth and also keeping the sensitivity for the sub gram targets. Only problem is i'm not used to the targeting yet and my holes dug have been pretty big so far. oh and i have to carry my pick on my shoulder now instead of in my belt holder because the butterfly coil picks it up. otherwise no complaints. It's made my 6x10 DD redundant.

I'm going to be using the butterfly and the whites 5.3 coil only from now on. unless of course I need the 6x10dd for punching through tall, tuff grass.

Dicko..
