Is there someway to hip or chestmount an MXT,prefer chestmount? I see Whites a has a 5 foot extension cable for 30 bucks but how to make an S handle to swing it and how to wear the detector on my chest? Still wonder why they did not make the MXT with an optional hip or chest mount setup for nugget and relic hunting in rough ground?
-Thanks--Tom

Over the years hipmounts have been made for various Whites units but never seen one for an MXT..Due to Whites convential configuration even if hipmounted its clumsly and meter is hard to read..Would take some serious modding to make one comfortable..Jimmy Sierra had a chest mount for an older spectrum and XLT but they didn't go over well in the new configuration...

White's has made a limited edition of chest mounted MXTs. Some of the California dealers have them.
Check with Jimmy Sierra.

You could just remove the rod assembly from the control box and wire the meter thats on the rod assembly to another connector that you would have to install on the Control housing. This would Void any warranty you might have though. Just take the top cover off and drill out the two rivets that connect the rod to the housing.Kind of like what I did on my Mark-1 Mod.The wire with the 5 pin connector pictured below is what was on my XL Pro rod when I purchase it for the Mark-1 Conversion, I imagine this is the same connector on the MXT. I would use this connector to soldier onto the new male connector that you would fasten to the control Box , then get some coil cable and appropiate conectors for the rest of the job..

This is how its done takes a bit of work though...
And according to Whites service I did not void the warranty
as there is no soldering or alteration to the circuit boards.

I emailed Jimmy Sierra. He has GREAT customer service to inquiries.Holy Cow, he got back to me within a few hours !! Jimmy told me he had ordered 100 MXT chestmount machines from Whites and Jims Detectors in California had bought 75 of them. Unfortunately, he did not give me this dealers phone number and when I went to Whites Electronics website, it only lists dealers by zip code and I have no idea what zip to put in? And the dealer appears not to have a website.
Jimmy suggested trading in my MXT for a chestmount version but no prices were quoted.

It looks like a cut of handle left attached to the box with
the LCD Display hanging out so far you can't see in front of your feet. Thats why I had to find a better way..theres works but not like this one.

This is how my MXT looked when I finished.I also put a guard over the trigger switch to protect it.I used a short piece of tubing on the box to insert a bent piece of flat aluminum to attach the display.

MUCHO GRANDE, BETTER THAN THAT BULKY KIT FOR SALE THATS GOT THE POD HANGING WAY OUT FROM IT. I AM SURE YOUR ARM WILL THANK YOU.

I do not like taking another persons detector apart and making a change, to many problems can happen and it will void any warranty that is left on your MXT. Getting the display cable out of the control box is the hardest part of the project. They glue the cable with silicone glue where the cable goes through the hole in the control box and the glue has to be cut away from the cable without damaging the cable. I had about 8 hours in the project and also had to buy a 3 foot coil extension cable from Whites. Thanks for your interest. Steve

I Think you asking about hip mount Steves I believe is a chestmount only.. Steve can you reomount the Display POD to the Handle for regular use in short amount of time or to use the box alone attached to the belt???

Nope, I need the chest mount for my MXT.. Is this the Steve that found the heart shaped gold nugget at Ganes Creek in Alaska 2 years ago? I know he was from Idaho and I had chatted with him about using dowsing rods for gold hunting at 1 time.

It took about 2 hours to put the MXT back to it's original shape. It does not work as a belt mount.I have since sold the MXT and got a Minelab X-Terra 70. Much lighter and works as well as the MXT.

Yes, I am the lucky guy. Anyone could have found that nugget, but you have to get over it to find it. I am off to Ganes cr again in about 3 weeks with my X-terra 70.

Let use know how it goes ar Ganes with the X-terra. A pro and con with it and the MXT would be great since you will have experience with both at the same location by then. Please post in MXT forum as well so we don't miss you report. Hope I am not asking to much.
