MXT and VDI'S

Hello all, I hope every one had a good weekend, I was wondering will VDI numbers change due to temperature ground conditions etc... For some reason My numbers have changed on pennies, all other coins seem to be where they always were. I have started getting pennies as low as 55 and as high as 80 on the VDI scale. These are all memorials by the way. Yesterday I had a solid 80 VDI with no movement solid sound at about 3-4 inches This was always a dime up till now, out popped a penny. I thought ground balance maybe, but I checked and re-checked it per Jeff's book the MXT Edge. They are still in the range I always dig so is there any concern here?

I have had the same thing happen. Lots of variables. That is one of the things that makes the hobby interesting. Moisture in the ground, who knows what decayed in the ground before your target came along. I was looking at some ground that a blade had went over there were big chunks of yellow clay all over some several feet across. I am guessing they got spit out of a volcano millions of years in the past. Point is the ground there would be highly variable I didn't test it with a metal detector but I would imagine the same coin buried the same depth could have two entirely different reading depending on whether it was in a clump of clay or the regular dirt and all with in a few inches. Try several other places before suspecting your machine.

I did forget to mention this started about 10 days ago, and it has remained in many different areas.

this while machine is on remove batteries then turn machine off leave off for few min.then reinsert battery then turn machine back on sometimes this reset machine do you know how to check for factory ground? also try washing coil to make sure nothing is stuck to it.

couple things was your ground in lock or salt mode, other turn machine on leave on remove battery case while on it might reset itself after battery case is removed turn machine off leave battery out for few minutes put back in and see if it works better.Next turn machine off put ground control in lock put other trigger in prospecting mode turn on when you look at screen the ground number or gnd number should read 83 this is a factory setting.Next turn machine off put ground trigger in ground not lock mode put other trigger in prospecting mode turn machine on watch screen went it start to read battery check at that time put ground trigger in lock next screen should give a gnd reading of 50 another factory setting. One other thing i would check is the battery's themselves and see if they all are inserted in the correct position.Hope my instruction were clear and correct hope this helps. You could also have a bad pin or a lose pin in the connection cable were the coil plugs into the control box or possible a bad coil.I would try a different coil that works on mxt first to see if this changes thing. If dealer is nearby take to him he probably has different coil you could try for a few minutes.Good luck

Hello all, I hope every one had a good weekend, I was wondering will VDI numbers change due to temperature ground conditions etc... Yes they sure will. I hunted in Central Illinois this weekend, about 120 miles from home. I dug 7 war nickels. At home they are usually 18 - 20. I dug two that read 26 and the guy I was hunting with also dug a 26 VDI nickel.

I have started getting pennies as low as 55 and as high as 80 on the VDI scale. These are all memorials by the way.
They are memorials but are they zinc memorials. Zincs easily go down in the low 50's depending on how bad they are corroded. I dig many 78 -80 signals and sometimes they are nickels and sometimes they are dimes. I don't see any problem there.

They are still in the range I always dig so is there any concern here? I don't think so.

One more thing rebooting the MXT by taking out the battery pack doesn't work like it does on the DFX. You can turn the MXT off and then back on with the switch. There is nothing connected when the switch is turned off in the MXT. On the DFX this is a different story and you do need to remove the battery pack. The MXT has no programs to store. This is directly from Carl a Whites engineer ( Carl@Whites).

Hi rkgm19.......The old copper mems come in about 80 and a little less, just like dimes, but the new zinc mems come in about 50 or so......Happy hunting.....How
