MXT and Silver

Hi all,
Bought an MXT Pro a couple of weeks ago and am doing well with it so far. I mainly a relic hunter, but I like to coinshoot too. My question is this: How have you folks done finding silver coins? I'm told that the MXT doesn't do as well on silver as the 6.5khz. machines. Can you folks tell me what kind of silver you've found and at what depth?

The MXT doesn't do as well on silver? WHAT? Oh my goodness, I've found silver coins from 1" to 8". I call it a "silver magnet". Remember, your coil had to be over the silver to find it. The MXT not good for silver? Bologna!

Congrats on your MXT Pro. You'll love it and the more you use it and practice, the more you'll like it even more. I promise!

HH,
Nancy

I'm new at this ( 3 weeks ), but have been finding silver . On my second outing ever, I found a silver 3 cent piece at 8" with a solid hit, and that is a very small coin.

I thought the same thing but 8 silver coins later I'm happy. Oldest and deepest for me was the 1894 Barber quarter @ 5" deep. Monte had a good post about this topic somewhere. I've only been swingin the mxt/pro for about 5 months.

Thanks folks. It's good to know. Like I said I've only had mine about two weeks and haven't hit any old sites yet. I'm still waiting for my 9x6 coil to come. Then I want to go back to some of the sites I've hunted in the past.

You will find silver! I've hit a Merc dime at a "true" 7-1/2" with a 6x10 Eclipse coil. Nice soft repeating signal that VDI'd as a dime. Biggest problem where I live is finding good hunting grounds. You will do well. HH

The MXT Pro will do fine on silver for you. Yes there are other machines that will hit deeper/harder in the silver range to varying degrees when properly learned and applied but they won't give you a great advantage when you're just starting out. The MXT Pro will allow you to be finding the coins, etc in it's range very quickly (as you've experienced) which translates into more fun = more hunting = more finds. After you've seasoned yourself and understand a LOT more that's when you can look into more "specialized" machines to get max performance/depth for specific locations. Ya gotta understand it before you can use it . .effectively. The MXT Pro will all you will need or want for quite awhile. JMHO

I've been hunting for 20+ years and have used just about every kind of machine on the market. My machine prior to the MXT was an XLT. I was just wondering about the silver with the MXT because of what I've read on the MXT forums. You good folks have erased my doubts.

Sorry, I misinterpreted part of your post . .no disrespect intended. You have a LOT more experience than I . . IMHO you will be very pleased with it's performance on silver. Good luck.

So far I like it okay. I took it out last week and found some clad. VDI numbers were right on. It's noisier than any machine I've used in the past, but I'm getting used to it. Also I am getting used to tone ID. I never used it with my Eagle Spectrum or XLT . The 6x9 coil came today and I can't wait to try it. It'll be a couple of days though, as winter has returned here in N.Y. with an expected 5-9 inches of snow. It should melt by next week.

No trouble with mine (MXT) when it comes to picking up silver. Found 4 mercs at depths of 3 to 6 inches with a good repeatable signal all in a 1 ft. area. Also dug a silver Washington quarter about 6 inches deep. No complaints here when it comes to silver.

one of my greatest finds with my MXT is actually a silver coin from around 1500, I was using the 6x10DD. loud and clear signal at 6-7 inches
