MXT and sand

I've had the chance to take the MXT to the beach a couple of times in the past two weeks and I have a question as to sand. Does sand (dry) effect the MXT to where it distorts signals? I was under some swings today a good 100 yards from the water line. I would venture to say this area almost never sees the tide or at least hasn't in some time. I pulled three quarters out of the sand and each one read as a penny. They were 3-4 inches deep. Nearly every other coin I pulled was far from where I usually see them in terms of VDI when hunting dirt. Every penny I pulled read between 45-55. I dig everything at the beach so long as it's a good sounding target so I'm not worried but rather as I learn my machine I'm just wondering.

Thanks

Dave

I wish i could help you out friend! I haven't gotten a chance to hunt on the beach yet. I am looking forward to it though.

may have sand in your coil cover, need to take them off and wash them out after beach huntting. Good Luck

The quarter signal looking like pennies seem odd but I have found lots of zinc pennies that were toasty and read about 50-55. I dig them thinking it could be an IH cent since they sometimes read under 1 cent.

Dave in my experience; Yes the sand will effecrt the id numbrs; so will several other soil changes; I hunt all over the country and the learning the machine is constant because it changes with the soil, wood chips, sand grass with dif fertalizer ; everything;
I get in some sand that will put pennies down with nickels and some that will put them up where quarters are; one tot lot in particular is wood chips with hard packed sand (old sand from before the wood chips) under it and the coins all are so off from the stock grass lawn readings you almost go nuts;
I finally got to where when i go to a new spot i dig everything til i get the feel of how that particular spot is going to read out on items, sometimes i just have to dig all til i go home because it is imposible to get a fix on things and as they say if in doubt dig. :)
Also yes if you gt sand in your coil cover it will effect the readings but usually it well create a steady static reading.
Good Luck
Grumpy

Thanks for the validation Grumpy. I'm glad to hear that you have experienced the same things. I guess it'll just add to the suspense of what exactly is in the scoop once the sand falls out.

Hi Dave,

Grumpy is right on about
