MXT and MXT Pro

BarberBill

New member
I'd appreciate some input from those that have either gone to the Pro from the MXT or have and use both. I've got the standard MXT and have been considering replacing it with the Pro. I can see where the ground grab would be useful and the tones when coin shooting, but is it worth the move up?
BB

THe main differences are
Tone ID
ground grab
back light
12" coil
Theres about a $100 price difference between the 2. The choice is yours.
If I had to choose between the 2- it would definately be worth the extra $100 for me. Since you already have the mxt- perhaps you might want to think about the DFX?

Hi B Bill, I have the reg.MXT and though about the Pro. But the reg. MXT has auto.track witch dose the same as the grab dose you just don,t need to push a button, right? If you don,t hunt at night why a night lite? My old Mxt has gotten me some fine rings and coins, that some others could not do. If you need a night lite go home start tomorrow when it is light. My 2c that all Flintstone

Hi BB,i've got the pro version and my belief is that if you don't mind the extra price the pro is worth it for the ground grab function alone. This allows you to search with the toggle switch set in the lock position and then update the ground trac with a quick touch and release of the button on the display.....much easier than fiddling about with the toggle switch if you need to update the trac function. Also,if searching in ground trac, the grab button can be used to temporarily lock the tracking when going over a very faint signal which can prevent the signal being tracked out by the detector. All you do in this case is press and hold the grab button while investigating the signal......as long as you keep it pressed it will stay locked.Add to this the tone id which is useful for coin shooting in parks and on beaches and the 12" coil to add to your arsenal it starts to make sense.I even find that the backlight can be useful on occasions...at least i've got one if i need it.The MXT is an awesome machine....the MXT pro is an awsome machine with extra features that are actually useful to a lot of detectorists,me included.Go on,treat yourself.you won't be disappointed:)
Regards,Neil.

Over the years I thought, spend more, find more, and I did spend more. Well, I learned the hard way, financially, that's not the case. I found no better detector then my MXT, and I had all the top three high end detectors. In the end fancy displays and additional bells and whistles will not find any more then what you'll find with your MXT. It has a display that already tells you whats below the coil, so why would you need tones? If you want more information, then spend the money. Remember, it's your technique and talent that makes you successful, not how much you spend. Just my opinion.

There's a lot of past posts on here and you can do a search on the MXT PRO vs. MXT. Personally, I can't justify the cost since there's not all that much difference. Now if I didn't own the MXT, I hoenstly don't know if I would spend the extra on the Pro. You're not going to find any more with the Pro than the MXT. Your coil has to be over the target! HH, Nancy

Thanks for the responses. I knew the differences between the two, but was wondering what those that have used both thought. I think I'd like the ground grab function, but it really doesn't take much effort to unlock the toggle, rebalance, lock and go on. I'll probably just keep using the standard MXT that I have.

Good choice BarberBill

I wish the nite light was just a momentary pushbutton. To turn it on and off it take 2 or 3 button selections. I dont like to hunt with it on alll the time. With it on you can't see the coil so I seldom use it.

Mike5853, I see you have both the MXT and the X-Terra 705. I have the X-Terra 70 and I'm thinking of trading to an MXT. The X-Terra tones are not what I was used to. I started out with White's and Garrett's analog machines way back then and the flutey tones of the Minelabs take some getting used to. Having used both, what is your take on the differences?
