Anytime I get the Hot Rocks ID, I just ignore it. That's mainly because it comes up a negative number, like -95. I saw where somebody else said that sometimes other things (possibly good targets) can register as hot rocks. My question is this, what makes the detector register it as a "hot rock"? Is it a slightly conductive signal, a broken signal, or what? Is it like when you see iron come up, pinpoint it and see how deep it is to make a decision on whether to dig or not? See, when I'm relic hunting I usually don't dig every signal unless I'm in a known camp. When I'm looking for a camp I have to cover ground and just don't have the time to dig most of my signals. However, once in a known camp area I'll dig most of my signals and even go so far as to switch over to one of my other detectors that gets a little better depth in all metal and hunt in all metal. The irony is I wish it was the other way around as my other detector weighs less than half of what the MXT does. Anyway, curious to see if anybody can explain hot rocks to me.
