MXT and HOT rocks!!!!

Well-known member
Not vary impressed with this unit in a planted corn field that has hot rocks what a aweful experience i had it set in relic- trigger forward and ground balance plus locked after sensativity at preset/disc at one notch below nickle also threshole just autiable wth 950 coil any ideas why ?
.

Speaking of this issue I live in the Mojave desert and the place that sold me my machine suggested I use the Eclipse DD locally in these areas of the desert and said it will do you better because of hot rocks. I don't know if he is right and I use the 950 for grass and park areas but I haven't had any issues.

The 10"DD is deeper and because it's a DD it is less affected by mineralized ground or hot rocks. If the 950 is working good, I'd stick with it.

Sasquache, if you use the Search function here @ FMall, there are tons of posts regarding how to effectively handle hot rocks.

the main reason i bought another mxt (pro this time ) last one stolen is because that for where i live 99.9 % of the time when it says hot rock its right ,before i knew it i dug a ton of them up to be sure

and it sure lets you know there in the ground but i didnt give up on my mxt but im learning it and getting better with time.

I hit a buch of hot rock today and I remembered the manual said to lower the gain. I lowered it two notches and it really helped a lot. I think Starvin's response has credibility.

Thank you for the reply this does help.sas

a dd coil would be my choice in that situation, I would try locking the ground balance too

could someone explain "locking ground Balance"? thanx Theresa

Hi Theresa, I would recommend you to read the MXT manual, that way everything will make sense and you will find the mxt working really simple and have more fun

the locking is easy: bump the coil up and down on clear ground (with out hitting it) till you hear no variances on the threshold tone, then change the toggle to Lock

cheers!

So, I just put a cover on coil..I can't get it off now. I just went out to yard, I didn't hear anything much. The guy I got MD from said cover would not interfere. But, yesterday, there was all kinds of noise out there. I'm kinda frustrated. How do I get cover off? I just snapped it on. But, I can't pry it off, I don't want to hurt coil. Arghhh
