MXT and best coil

Hello everyone - I'm new here and also a new MXT owner. I've only used the MXT approximately 6 times since I bought it in October and it's proven to be a very good detector. However, I do have some questions regarding the best coil for it.

I've been reading all the comments that have been written so far concerning all the different coils and they have been very informative for me. I do all types of hunting, from civil war relic hunting in Virginia, colonial relic hunting in Pennsylvania (where I live just outside of Reading, Pa)and I also do coin and jewelry hunting in the parks.

After reading all the different comments, I took Monte's advice and went out and bought the 5.3 Eclipse and just used it for the first time today in a very trashy park. It appeared to give very good target separation in a park full of foil, pull tabs, and aluminum cans.

My question is: Will the 5.3 coil be good for an upcoming relic hunt in very hot central Virginia soil? Or would the 5"/8" EXcelerator coil be better for that? Monte says the 5.3 is best for general use, would the 5.3 also be good for hot ground? I've been a Tesoro user for the past 10 years and this is my first White's machine. I must admit that I'm really liking the MXT, but I'm trying to get a handle on the best coil for my type of hunting which varies greatly. I'm going to continue working with the 5.3....but if anyone can give anymore advice/opinions on the 5/8" EXcelerator I'd love to hear how well they work in hot ground as compared with the 5.3 Eclipse. If they are comparable, I'll just stick with the 5.3, but if there is a significant difference, I'll splurge for the 8" EXcelerator too. Sorry for the long note.
Thanks for any assistance.

Good ? I have both the 5" n 8" excel. The 5" round dd would not give u much coverage, I think the 8" would be better for generally searching. Has pretty good depth. Since you have the 5.3" already I would lean the other way. I live in Kentucky and our soil is not very mineralized. You can get a used 8" excel once in awhile on the forum or the big e. I would also consider 4 by 7 ellip also. Not doubt I personally prefer the smaller coils to the stock coil. good luck. I'm an ex allentowner. HH

...I'm leaning towards getting the 8". Ex-Allentowner huh? My Uncle is in Bethlehem, my father is from Scranton and I am now in Reading (just about 10 miles west). Thanks for your comments and HH to you also!

I have a younger sister that lives in bethlehem, also had an aunt that live in reading. HH The last couple of hunts out I probably found about 70 quarters including today.

I also have the 5 and 8" which are both DD coils. The 5.3 is a concentric coil. If the ground is mineralized the DD's would be better. The 8" is deeper than the 5" and a little deeper than the 4.5x7 according to JW. A lot of the relic hunters use the 6x10 DD Whites. I really do well with the 8". Rob

...in Reading and found just a nickel and a penny. Although I must say that was probably pretty good since that park has likely been hit a thousand times and the trash was almost unbearable. So for a nickel and a penny to come out of it, I thought it wasn't too bad. LOL I'm glad I bought the 5.3 for it though. I'm now thinking about getting that 8" Excelerator coil and trying that out.

That's just wanted I wanted to know....I appreciate your comments on that. The next coil I'll buy will be the 8" DD.
